| | | | The man who forever changed the "digital darkroom" with his groundbreaking, #1 bestselling, award-winning book "The Photoshop Book for Digital Photographers" now tackles the most important side of digital photography: how to take pro-quality shots using the same tricks that today's top digital pros use.
From The Publisher:
Scott Kelby, the man who changed the "digital darkroom" forever with his groundbreaking, #1 bestselling, award-winning book The Photoshop Book for Digital Photographers, now tackles the most important side of digital photography--how to take pro-quality shots using the same tricks today's top digital pros use (and it's easier than you'd think).
This entire book is written with a brilliant premise, and heres how Scott describes it: "If you and I were out on a shoot, and you asked me, 'Hey, how do I get this flower to be in focus, but I want the background out of focus?' I wouldn't stand there and give you a lecture about aperture, exposure, and depth of field. In real life, I'd just say, 'Get out your telephoto lens, set your f/stop to f/2.8, focus on the flower, and fire away.' You d say, 'OK,' and you'd get the shot. That's what this book is all about. A book of you and I shooting, and I answer the questions, give you advice, and share the secrets I've learned just like I would with a friend, without all the technical explanations and without all the techno-photo-speak."
This isn't a book of theoryit isn't full of confusing jargon and detailed concepts: this is a book of which button to push, which setting to use, when to use them, and nearly two hundred of the most closely guarded photographic "tricks of the trade" to get you shooting dramatically better-looking, sharper, more colorful, more professional-looking photos with your digital camera every time you press the shutter button.
Here's another thing that makes this book different: each page covers just one trick, just one single concept that makes your photography better. Every time you turn the page, you'll learn another pro setting, another pro tool, another pro trick to transform your work from snapshots into gallery prints. There's never been a book like it, and if you're tired of taking shots that look "OK," and if youre tired of looking in photography magazines and thinking, "Why don't my shots look like that?" then this is the book for you.

5 of 5 Excellent book Sunday, February 17, 2008 Paul from Florida
Hello, I'm a beginer in Photography, and I started with a Nikon D70s for begining I said is no reason to spend more when I have not enough knowladge... After 6 months of using it, I decided the camera is not too good, so I should go and get a D300 nikon, but before that I got this book and the volume 2 of it, and I start reading about it, and follow the steps explained there, and I started to take way better pictuers then before... so then I realized that Actually the camera I had was very good, was no need to spend another 2000$ on a better camera, all i had to do is learn more on how to use it. So thanks to this book I saved a lot of money, and I read it in about a week, and I could make the difference of the pictuers before and after reading it :) Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 An excellent beginner book for digital newbies Tuesday, August 14, 2007 Christopher Welch from Fredericksburg, TX
This is a great book for folks who just bought a digital camera and are not sure what to do next. It is a very interesting read and has some great tips and tricks along with recommendations for photo equipment. You will find yourself wishing it was ring bound instead of paperback! I have been taking digital photos for about 3 years now and I learned a ton of stuff from this book. Anyway, whatever level you are you will find a great deal of useful information contained in these pages. Buy one for all your friends too! Was this review helpful?

This book wasn't what I was looking for, a book that teaches how to use the basic camera features on my digital camera and how to use those to take great pictures. If you are looking to become a wedding or landscape photographer, this is for you. I don't have an SLR, let alone a tripod and I don't care about wedding photos. I regret buying this book, the title is very misleading. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 KELBY KNOWS DIGITAL Saturday, May 12, 2007 Tom M. from Sun Prairie, WI
Clearly written with some humor, this book provides concise tips for the digital photographer. If you want to take better photos and don't care to learn all of the technical aspects of photography, then this book is for you. There is a different easy-to-follow tip on every page with an accompanying photo.
I've also purchased his "The Photoshop Elements 5 Book for Digital Photographers". It is excellent. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Handy book Tuesday, October 24, 2006 Mike from Indianapolis
Nice little book for telling you how to create specific looks with your pictures... not heavy into the science of photography - just a "if you want this, do this" kind of book. Not quite pocket sized, but still small and portable. Easily fits into a small camera bag or purse.... Was this review helpful?

As a new photographer, I found Kelby's book to be helpful. I read the whole book and improved my photography. I'm not taking professional grade photos, but I'm getting better. The book can apply to point and shoot cameras, but it's aimed at DSLRs. Not everything can apply to my Canon S2 IS (i.e. certian aperture settings, use of different lenses), but many things can. Somethings are common sense. For example, want a sharper image? Use a tripod, use the right ISO speed. That's simple advice, but it's the kind of adivce beginners need. Kelby has chapters on shooting weddings, landscapes, people, avoiding problems, taking advantage of digital, and more. His advice is practical and technical. He writes concisely. He is fairly comprehensive in scope but not exhaustive in detail. You may need a more advanced book in addition. Kelby will help you make the transition from knowing little to being able to hold your own (if you actually apply his advice, and maybe spend some dollars). Good book, I recommend it.
