Nat "King" Cole is a classic early R&B/soul/jazz vocalist. TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF came out in 1960, and THE TOUCH OF YOUR LIPS 1961, both considered exceptional pieces. UK-issued EMI Gold version is remastered and complete with all 24 original songs. On this Capitol Records two-for-one reissue, Nat "King" Cole is heard first with a big band and then with a symphony orchestra. Both albums are unmistakably romantic, and the arrangements on all 24 tracks are intense and lush. TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF (1960) is jazzier, featuring hard-swinging tunes such as "For You," "You've Got the Indian Sign on Me," and others. These selections emphasize the vociferous might of the brass section and the smoky elegance of the reeds. THE TOUCH OF YOUR LIPS (1961) is lighter and dreamier. Each tune heard here overflows with Hollywood-like sentimentality, but Cole's voice is so honest and pure that it elevates the music. Cole has the ability to melt even the frostiest of hearts, as displayed on his undeniably charming versions of "I Remember You," "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square," and "Only Forever."
