Author Bio
Adrienne Rich
Born in Baltimore, Rich graduated from Radcliffe in 1951; her first book of poetry, A CHANGE OF WORLD, was also published that year. She has won many awards for her work, and in 1994 she was named a MacArthur Fellow. Like many poets, Rich has changed with the years, from a writer of quietly precise verse to an angry spokeswoman for feminist and lesbian issues, seeing poetry as an instrument of change. She was also deeply affected, both personally and professionally, by the suicide of her husband in 1970. Her widely acclaimed book, DIVING INTO THE WRECK, won a National Book Award for Poetry.
