4 of 5 Overall, very good Tuesday, April 07, 2009 floydg68 from Groton, CT
This remote has a lot going for it. I also have a Keyspan Remote Pro so I'll compare it to that.
The overall size and feel of the Targus is larger in your hand compared to the Keyspan, like a giant Snickers bar. It has a sort of velvety feel because of the non-slip material used on the bottom portion of the remote. The buttons are placed well. I especially liked that you can toggle between presenter mode and mouse mode. In mouse mode the laser tracker works much better than the Keyspan knob, though it will still take some getting used to.
Set up is more complicated than the Keyspan, which is plug and play. With the Targus you need to download drivers from their website and then pair the bluetooth to your Macbook. It's not hard but slower that the Keyspan. The drawback is if you needed to use another laptop and the remote, you would need to download the driver to that laptop as well.
Here are my gripes, though minor.
1. To turn on the remote you need to hold the power button for three seconds which is then confirmed by three blinks of the red light (same to turn off). There is no way to tell visually after that if the remote is on or not. You need to press the laser pointer to see if it's on. To it's credit, the remote will automatically shut off after an hour of no use so if you accidentally left it on your battery wouldn't get totally drained
2. This size is a little big for my hands. That's just a personal preference though.
Overall, I would recommend this remote. It would be perfect if it was slightly smaller and had the plug and play usability of the Keyspan. Was this review helpful?
