5 of 5 Safest Way To Keep PC Running Smoothly 8/25/2010

Everyone knows (or should know) of the importance of maintaining proper security (ie, anti-virus, firewall, etc.), but surprisingly too many are willing to pay someone to "fix" their system when something goes wrong. I've been using SM for years and it does a great job of keeping my PCs running smoothly.
However, I wouldn't recommend installing their anti-virus or firewall as I've always had problems with those two products from Iolo. But their premium or professional product DOES include a recover subproduct which allows you to create a recovery disk. Something worth having. Lastly, I only buy this product every few years and only from Buy.com as its always available for around $20 for a 3-license package.

BOUGHT THIS ITEM BECAUSE I BELIEVED I NEEDED MORE PROTECTION AND LAPTOP WAS SLOW STARTING AND CLOSING. REVIEWS AND PRODUCT SAID IT WOULD INCREASE SPEED SIGNIFICANTLY.. DOWNLOADED IT SUCCESSFULLY BUT NO INCREASE IN SPEED IS NOTICEABLE.FIRST TIME I RAN THE ANTIVIRUS IT TOOK SO LONG I HAD TO SHUT IT DOWN TO GO TO SLEEP. AFTER 3 HRS IT WAS STILL RUNNING. RAN IT A SECOND TIME AND AFTER SOME 2 HRS IT FROZE ON ME. MY "FREE" MICROSFT ANTIVIRUS RUNS IN LESS THAN 90 MNS. FOR $ 20 NOT WORTH THE EFFORT IN RETURNING ITEM.I USE IT TO CLEAN REGISTRIES, SOMEHOW IT GIVES ME A LITLE SATISFACTION THAT IT CLEANS SOMETHING.

I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO COMPLETELY HAPPY WITH ONE SINGLE PRODUCT AS I AM WITH SYSTEM MECHANIC. TWICE I TRIED SOMETHING ELSE AND ONE SLOWED DOWN MY COMPUTER AND THE OTHER LET A VIRUS IN. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH SYSTEM MECHANIC. ITS THE ONLY THING I WANT ON MY COMPUTER NOW FOR MAINTENANCE.

System Mechanic Pro is a wide-ranging suite of tools that inspect, report, and offer to improve the condition of your PC in several consequential ways. From disk drives to Internet settings, from the Windows registry to the boot and start-up processes, System Mechanic investigates and offers to repair items that most PC users have heard about, but don’t want to mess with.
Via an ingenious approach called “Tune-Up Definitions,†the suite analyzes your PC with the latest available insights into what produces system slowdowns. In as little as a few clicks and minutes, System Mechanic Pro reports and offers to fix its discoveries. Problem details are available, but with use, the suite engenders such user confidence, that the “Repair now†button will be the choice of many.
The bottom line, of course, is performance. System Mechanic Pro has performed flawlessly and productively on all three machines on which I have installed it (two Windows XP systems, and a Windows 7, 64-bit machine). One of the XP installations was particularly sluggish before I unleashed System Mechanic; today it runs like new. The suite works without issue in the Windows 7, 64-bit environment.

Two and a half years after installing and using System Mechanic Professional daily, I am still as satisfied with its performance as on day one. For keeping your computer tuned up and trouble free this product is hard to beat. Automatic updates arrive regularly and even complete version upgrades come free of charge as long as my subscription is valid. I started with System Mechanic Professional 7 and with free upgrades I am now running Version 9.5. The product has many useful and practical features. A detailed analysis and information about your computer takes seconds to obtain.

I have owned system mechanic for years and just recently upgraded to system mechanic pro. I have to say that this is the best product I have ever had. It has a built in firewall and antivirus program that is second to none. It cleans my computer from top to bottom and is very easy to use. I will never be without this product and encourage everyone who wishes to keep their computer clean to buy it.

I'm a bit skeptical of most anything these days, & I don't fill out many of these surveys or reviews. Matter of fact, I believe this is the first one that I can remember.
I've tried them all.
Your product, price, customer service, & overall reliability is in a league of its own. I have 4 computers just in 1 of my 2 residences, 2 of them dual-booters. I built them from scratch.
System Mechanic Professional 9 is installed on every one of them. And it will remain installed on every one of them.

I am a happy user of this product ever since its inception. It changed a lot during the years.
The benefits I am enjoying today: 1. Transparency. It may do everything in the background and my computer runs without hick ups.
2. I may perform diagnostic, repair or optimization functions at will if I choose to. 3. Since Windows XP may be installed on the Macintosh computer, System Mechanic Pro does the same diagnostics, repair and optimization functions as if XP were running on a real PC. 3. As a more experienced user of Windows, I feel comfortable with the use of the operating system, since I have developed confidence in
System Mechanic Pro that allows me to use my applications that do what they are designed to do.
Microsoft could have developed an operating system that does not require System Mechanic Pro. Alas, this application is required to do what the basic OS does not do.
I am going to continue to use System Mechanic Pro for as long as Microsoft is in operation.

I have had NO CRASHES in my New Computer using Windows Vista, 64 Bit, using System Mechanic Professional version 9.0.
Windows XP and Windows Vista operate perfect with System Mechanic Professional.
I would never use ANY Microsoft Products without System Mechanic, the TOP Windows Utility. No Crash, no mini crash in well over 1 year, to me it is OUTSTANDING. I would suggest Bill Gates (Microsoft) to buy Iolo Technologies, the creator of System Mechanic and included with Windows 7.
I am sure most of us complain about Microsoft Windows because of the unstable environment. The combination of System Mechanic and Norton Anti virus has provided me with TOTAL and COMPLETE stability within the Windows environment. I give this product an AAA+++. You will never regret to purchase this program. I have used it for over 8 years and I will continue to use it.

I, as a Senior citizen, did not grow up with our amazing computers and I have always depended upon others for help in keeping my computer in top shape. I kept seeing ads for numerous programs and after much research about 7 months ago I decided to purchase System Mechanic Pro. That was the best decision I have made. I found SMP very easy and simple to use and the results have been amazing.
Here is all I have to do, once it is installed and analyzes my system:
1. I click the desktop icon
2. I click "View Problems"
3. I click "Repair All"
That's it, so simple I can use it and be confident that my computer problems have been repaired. I like to view the problems about once per week which is enough since I don't use my computer probably as much as some of you do. Check it out for the sake of your computer as I did. After seven months I have found no negatives to tell you about.

System Mechanic Pro is an all in one PC charger.
At the click of your mouse this Iolo programme will do a quick (or deep) analysis and advise you of any PC problems.
You can fine tune it yourself or, like me, you can use the Power Tools button then click each item you want tuned, i.e. Defrag Hard Disk and, or, Registry (including Back Up). Reshuffle RAM Memory. Zap temporary and Internet cache files.
You don't need to know what you're doing; the programme only operates safe tuning!
In the new 8.5 version you can automate a range of tasks to run in the background: clean up system clutter, repair Registry problems, optimise start up, fix hard drive errors, plug security holes, speed up the Internet, defrag drives, keep RAM memory at peak etc etc.
You have Anti Virus protection that updates automatically.
You have a Firewall that keep you safe.
You can perform diagnostics.
You can recover deleted files, or erase them completely with Drive Scrubber. You can install a desktop Incinerator that rubs out files from 1 to 10 times so that they're gone, forever, immediately.
You can close running programmes to free-up RAM power.

I have used System Mechanic for a number of years and have found it to be cover all of the aspects of ensuring that your computer is "clean" and "in good order". With this age of software and hardware and especially the viral type items and clutter we all experience in our machines on a daily basis it is critical that we have one, repeat one program to do it all. I so appreicate IOLO for creating a program that does not hog the machine, but takes the time and pain to keep my computer in excellent condition.

Finally after many years and thousands of dollars, I have found THE software package that truly deserves my time. A few months ago I discovered System Mechanic Professional. Honestly, I had never even heard of the product and was leery of even trying it. Over the years I tried the various PC Tools and Norton packages but System Mechanic Professional truly brought it all together in one package for me.
I love the way it gets into every area of my PC to tweek and improve its performance then make numerous reports available for my review.

I was very pleased with System Mechanic. It does everything they say it will. Actually, I couldn't believe how well it works !!! I am a club DJ and I have to have pc's that are fast and don't freeze. It's only program I have ever used that when I defragment the hard drive it reports that there are no fragmented files almost 80% of the time !!! I've never had that happen before on pc's I use a lot. You will not be disappointed with System Mechanic.
Pros:
Cleans registry, temp files. Basically, It keeps my pc's running as fast as when they were new. Defragments memory. Fast running which is a big plus.
Cons :
So far, I haven't found any... That was the biggest surprise !

I love iolo. I just recently started using the anti-virus and firewall. Previously I had used Mcafee for years. Still even have 3 years of subscription left with them. I was having some real problems with my computer and even with using the rest of system mechanic was still having issues. I decided to go for it and changed 2 things. First of all I went to firefox for my browser and secondly I changed to Iolo for my antivirus. I am so glad I made these 2 changes, the best one was iolo. My computer is running great. Thank you

System Mechanic is really good software, for the most part. It does a very good job of keeping your computer running smooth and really helps with settings that allow you to safely stop programs at start-up, defragment memory, and wipe deleted content from your HDD'S. The only complaint I have about the product is they've decided to force you to re-buy the product every year making it a "subscription". In previous versions there wasn"t any subscription needed and I could use the same software for years without having to buy the new version, so that takes down the value. All in all very good software. It allows you to use your computer rather than fixing it all the time.

I have used Iolo products for years (primarily their Mobile System Mechanic version), but have now purchased System Mechanic Pro 8.5 because I can at last use it on all my PCs at home. It is still still a bit limited in 64-bit versions of Windows - no firewall in particular, but they do promise full compatibility soon. I look forward to this eagerly because the program does a very good job protecting computers with little or no user input required while experienced users can have as much control as they would like.
I have experienced little or no system performance impact - and I am very picky and notice the little things!!! I recommend this program to any and all.

This product does what it says it does. It helps you to keep your system running smoothly, but I have heard that sometimes it can really mess things up.

I am not comfortable using the antivirus feature and hasn't install. So no comments on that side.
But i must say the System Mechanics is good to keep your PC optimize and clearing the debris. I am owner of System Mechanics 6 also, but this version is far much better and fast.

2 of 5 Don't Count on a Rebate 9/12/2008

Installed the program as directed, took awhile but got it done. Ran the diagnostic several times, lots of corrections took place. Unfortunately, the computer actually got slower instead of faster. We ended up uninstalling it because of the poor performance. To top it all off, the rebate wasn't allowed. We included the appropriate items but were denied our rebate. Paying for something that is useless and cannot be returned once opened was a bitter pill to swallow. Make sure you make copies of EVERYTHING if you're going to take a chance on this product anyway.

I have been a Norton Systemworks premier edition user for a long time. Norton is very stable and their support is excellant. I have not found any programs that it won't work with. System Mechanic Pro does more things than NSW, like it will delete some spyware, but it is not as stable. They are constantly having updates to the program. Recently had a problem where SMP crashed my computer. I was on my own to revive it. Technical support is a 1 out of 10. SMP will clean up and optimize in ways that NSW will not. SMP will not co-exist with programs as well as NSW. System usage is not as bad as Webroot's Spyware product. Overall it is an ok product for what it does. If Norton would ever update their product to include spyware protection and some other utilities that SMP has, that would be great.

This program is a waist of money. I bought this program here on buy.com and thought i I supposed to be able to send two rebates in which would have essentially made the program free. But when i the program in the mail the rebate said the next day was the deadline, this is my first complaint.
I have seen no difference of efficiency of this program compared to version 6. Even as i'm writing it is booting up (NINE HOURS AS OF NOW!) This thing takes more memory from my pc then it does help it. I think i would recommend the older version for those that have the older computers. it works fine on my new pc, but as i try to run it on my old one it is simply disadvantages. As far as the virus protection, i get the feeling the programmers just through these extras in there as a the to try to make up for what this program is designed to do. I'd say, save your money

I'm running win2k pro and I've been using this for about 2 weeks and I love the clean-up tools which is what I was looking for. I am concerned about some of the optimization tools however. It seems as though my system will run fine for a while and then run freeze for a minute and then run OK until I use the optimization tools again. I would like more detailed reports like what is it doing to optimize my internet connection. I had to shut off all of the automatic optimization because it would bog down my system at the most inopportune moments when system memory was getting low (ie during video game play). Over all I am pleased with this product. The price was right- free after rebate. My main beef is that it need more detailed reports of what it is doing although this may only be useful to the curious advanced user.

I tried System Mechanic and also Norton System Works. System Mechanic wins hands down. This has lot tools to make your computer fast. Useful for beginners as wells as folks who understand terms such as startup programs, registry etc.

I just installed this program and it went fairly smoothly. The first scan was accomplished quickly and the recommended repairs were done painlessly. Hopefully continued use will continue with similar action.

Good tool to tune up your PC, but the Anti-Viral seems to be lacking, Sometimes you get a virus that this software can't remove.. Norton is probably the way to go if you really ned great Anti-Viral

While the tools included work well, the anti-virus and firewall have given me constant problems. Frequently the firewall will not load. If there's an update to the product, it's an at least a 3 reboot process before the computer will work again as it locks up upon the first 2 times. I used it on mulitple computers (4) and they all had the same problems. Since then, I went back to Norton's Internet Security and only use the System Mechanic for the other tools. I did NOT have this problem when System Mechanic came with the Kaspersky software.

I have a 64-bit Vista computer and the software did not install. I looked on their web page and they currently do not support 64-bit.
I installed it on my old XP computer, and based on a Norton SystemWorks performance test, my computer actually ran slightly SLOWER!!
Not too impressed.
