The old saying "You Get What You Pay For" is 100% true with this device. While it has very nice set of features that can be used with any PC, the build quality is below average (that seals it more that it is 100% made in china). Feels very very cheap and I kinda feel bad for this device bearing the name "SwissGear" which by default reminds you of quality. This is no where near that. All buttons feel cheap, the mouse button is not designed properly, it rests itself towards left, so when you click to left, you dont get the button feedback.
Other than that it an OK device for that price. But dont buy this thinking of Swiss build quality. Was this review helpful?
1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 2 of 5 Design flaws and too many features Tuesday, July 07, 2009 Josh from Hemet, CA
The concept is simple. I want a remote control for my PC that controls powerpoint. Next slide, previous slide. Thats it. What on earth do I have to do to find a remote that JUST WORKS?
This one wont even stay powered on because of a design flaw with the power switch. You have to wiggle the switch to keep it in presenter mode.
The mouse control is choppy and unusable. Volume controls do not work at all. The timer has a buzzer that does not buzz when the time runs out. (on mine anyway)
The manual shows the next slide button as the "up" button, and previous as "down" but power point works the opposite, so the next slide is the down button... that makes sense right? Well while they were at it, they made the right button the end show (esc) button, so if you press what SHOULD be the next slide button, it ends the show. PERFECT!
Get the Kensington Pocket Presenter instead. It has 4 buttons, spread appart to prevent accidents, and next and previous are right and left like they should be in any english speaking country.
This is a rebadged product not really made by swissgear. I love their backpacks, so I cant rag on them too much but this remote is a piece of garbage. Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 Kind of cheap feeling..... Monday, July 06, 2009 JJ from Montgomery, Al
The product performs as others have described but it really feels very cheap! I suppose as it should for $10 or so. I hoped for more with this brandname. Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 Defective Like the Others Monday, July 06, 2009 A Customer from Raleigh, NC
Just received the presenter today and plugged it in to my XP laptop. XP appeared to recognize the usb but not one button would work. Just the laser pointer (and the timer). For 10 dollars I should have known. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 It did not work Monday, July 06, 2009 A Customer from WI
I recieved my device and it did not work at all. I did call the tech # and after 20 min on hold I did get someone and they told me to return it to where I got it from and exhchange it. When I told them it was from Buy.com and they were out of stock, he took my name and address and said They would send me one. I hope I recieve it fairly soon. Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 2 one excellent and one with defective receiver Saturday, July 04, 2009 A Customer from Blacksburg, VA
Got two of this wireless remote. One received in excellent condition and despite the strange key assignment, it is OK once you read through the manual. The other received with defective receiver which makes it useless as it is not bluetooth-based. Overall I think it is a failure trial from Swiss-gear to enter this market. The design lakes HCI study and it looks like they just want to load it with functions but not a good design. Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 arrived defective Thursday, July 02, 2009 A Customer from Commerce MI
The mouse scroll to the right does not work. Lots of cool features but useless if they don't work. I will be returning the laserpointer. I had a kensington in the past that worked very well but very basic. Was this review helpful?

I only do occasional presentations and this is just what I needed. It works well and at $10 is a good value. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 great for powerpoint Wednesday, July 01, 2009 swiss_buyer from RI
It is great for using with Powerpoint. It has 2 modes (1 for powerpoint and 1 for multimedia-meaning it works with media programs such as Windows Media Player) but the multimedia mode does not fully work. The Volume up and Volume down in the multimedia mode does not work (tested with Vista 32 bit). Else the rest is great for $10 dollars. Was this review helpful?

The instructions are not clear. The RED M1 selection controls a Powerpoint Left (F9), Up (back), Right (Ecs Presentation), Down (forward). As noted by another reviewer, not as expected (ie left and right should be back and forward respectivly). The M2 Function controls Play/pause, vol up, stop, volume dn, from 9 oclock respecivly in Media Player (and possibly other apps).
The B is a nice feature, blacking the screen on and off.
The Laser is fine (red).
The time only counts down from a max of 60 min, not up, and vibrates quietly at 15 min, 5 min, and 0 min. It's illuminated in blue. Nice!
The mouse function is, as expected, totaly worthless. It only goes L/R and Up/Dn. One can feel two click states in the mechanics, but the second is not "enter" as one would expect. I can not find it does anything at all. The L button is the equivalent of Enter. R is for the right click menu. The IBM "thumb burner" mouse would be perfect here.
The buttons feel fine with the exception of the M1/Off/M2 switch, and the shiny finish will scratch and hold finger prints. A matt finish would be preferable.
Not on par with my swiss gear knives or backpack (love the backpack), and not what I expect from the manufacturer.
However, if your goal is to just run Powerpoint, then this is a GOOD choice for $10 or even $15. It does this well from a 50 ft distance, through the walls of my house. I would need to go outside to test the max distance. It has a laser integrated. I can now stand at the front of the room and run the PC at the back by myself. That's big! That was my goal! It also works well with media player (M2 mode). I did not test this with a DVD Movie Was this review helpful?

Considering most similar devices sell in the $40 range, you get what you paid for at $10. The presenter feels cheep, uses an unusual CR2450 battery, the buttons can't be reprogrammed, and the URL printed on the packaging for the software update is broken. On the plus side, the laser pointer is cool and the built in countdown timer could be useful. I couldn't get the volume control to work, but I was able to control a PowerPoint presentation and change tracks on a movie.
If you're looking for a good remote check out Keyspan. Was this review helpful?
0 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 1 of 5 Flimsy and defective Monday, June 29, 2009 A Customer from Sugar Land, TX
First impression: Device feels flimsy and cheap compared to other devices on the market.
Second impression, after two minutes of experimenting without reading the instructions: Device has lots of possibly helpful features, but they would be difficult to use by feel, when you're on a stage in front of an audience. The mouse wheel, for example, protrudes above the outer wheel and is fond of launching various PowerPoint menus while you're presenting. Then when you try to use the mouse wheel to click "Cancel" on the menu, it is first too slow -- then it overshoots.
Why I'm returning the device: The main feature of this type of device is to move forward and backward during a presentation. And this particular device has those functions BACKWARDS. Was this review helpful?

Once you get it - you realize it has limited capabilities for a MAC. You can however use it to move forward and backwards through a Powerpoint presentation. YOu cannot use it for volume etc.
Considering I got it for $10 - then it is probably worth it. I may return it - not sure. I will say the Buy.com, customer service reps were very good about the situation. My hunch is that it is GREAT for the price if you have a PC. Was this review helpful?
