| | | Love is what it's all about! Features: DVD Shirley MacLaine gives one of her greatest performances in this spectacular musical based on Neil Simon's smash Broadway hit. Director Bob Fosse broke new cinematic ground with his freewheeling, visually stunning story of lovelorn New York dance hall hostess, Charity Hope Valentine, who dreams of old-fashioned romance but gives her heart to one undeserving man after another. MacLaine joins all-star cast members Chita Rivera, Sammy Davis Jr., Ricardo Montalban and Stubby Kaye in belting out thirteen vibrant Cy Colman--Dorothy Fields' numbers including "Big Spender", "Rhythm Of Life", "There's Gotta Be Something Better Than This" and the show-stopping "If My Friends Could See Me Now". It's an unforgettable production of an all-time classic. "Fine, overlooked adaptation of the Broadway musical written by Neil Simon..." Leonard Maltin's Movie & Video Guide
 Editor's Note
Choreographer-turned-director Bob Fosse made his feature film debut with this glitzy screen version of the hit Broadway musical. The star of the show is Charity, a warm-hearted taxi-dancer who longs to "go straight" by marrying a decent guy and settling down to a career as a dental technician. But her trusting nature and dangerously naive outlook on life make the dance hall girl prey for a succession of opportunistic men. Used and abused and finally jilted at the altar, Charity's innocent spirit remains uncrushed, soaring out in the film's collection of lavishly choreographed song and dance routines. Songs include "Big Spender," "If My Friends Could See Me Now," and "Rhythm of Life."
