Susan Seddon Boulet (American, b. Brazil, 1941-1997) lived life in search of the magnificent. As a child growing up on a Brazilian farm, she developed a deep affection for animals and loved making colorful sketches of them. From these formative experiences, she found her destiny, one that deeply affected people all over the world.

Beginning in the 1970s, Boulet created well over two thousand pieces of art. Through most of her career she drew inspiration from the shamanic tradition and Native American themes. Her highly personal style offers glimpses of possibilities and of other worlds; it became renowned for fantastical creatures that rise from the misty land of dreams and lead to the outer limits of the imagination.

Boulet was also known for her finely detailed portraits within portraits, which explored the mysterious inner world of spiritual symbols and archetypes. By her skilled hand and inspired vision, a numinous dimension came into being, exquisitely displayed in vivid, living, breathing detail. Boulet's art resonates with all who have journeyed within to find a deeper personal truth. Her images have helped guide many along a path of self-discovery that leads, as psychologist Carl G. Jung once said, "back to the deepest springs of life".

Boulet never lost the lighthearted manner of her youth. Even as she explored the darker aspects of the psyche in her work and began her long struggle with cancer, she retained an energy, honesty, and warmth that endeared her to many.

This beautiful, moving retrospective by Michael Babcock recounts Susan Boulet's artistic development and celebrates her extraordinary personal journey. It includes more than two hundred reproductions of herunique and wondrous paintings, some never before published, along with photographs chronicling the events of her life from Brazil to California.
