2 of 5 flawed design reduces value of crank radio Wednesday, May 28, 2008
drucker from Southfield, MIchigan

I cannot recommend this crank radio, because cranking it in the wrong direction can damage the radio. It is extremely easy to forget and crank the radio in the wrong direction, so I consider this an unforgivable design flaw. Performance is mediocre, as it is difficult to find and receive stations, including the weather stations. Therefore this product may be most useful as an emergency flashlight, but the light is not especially bright or well-focused. I can't help but wonder how long the radio will continue to work when left unused for long periods of time, as many people would do if using it as an emergency device. I know of similar products that fail to hold a charge after extended periods of storage.

5 of 5 Surviving power outages Tuesday, March 04, 2008
Gene from Buffalo, NY
This inexpensive multi-faceted product has come in very handy several times recently due to some unexpected power outages. With no power generator and weak to dead normal battery powered flashlights and radios, I (and my family) appreciated the cranking ease and use of this product. I even got to use the cell phone charger which was even more valuable to me. This baby will remain in a handy location from now on, and I may just buy a few more as gifts for other family members and friends.

3 of 5 Does not have adapters for all Cell Phones Monday, March 03, 2008
Jarred from Chino Hills, CA
Overall, I would say the purchase was decent, but it lacked the adapter for my particular cell phone. I have a Samsung i730 smartphone.

5 of 5 Great product Saturday, March 01, 2008
A Customer from Chicago, IL
This product functions as described. It is good for emergencies. The plastic body is a bit fragile, but if you take care of it, it does work and can provide you with the energy you need.

5 of 5 Good value for the money Saturday, February 16, 2008
Dennis from Houston, MO
I purchased two of these and they came in handy during a recent ice storm. Nice to have a flashlight and radio that you know will have power during emergencies. At first I thought the radio didn't work, but if you try to use it while using the light, you have crank charge it up enough to do both. I just purchased another one as a gift for a neighbor and hope they are as happy with theirs as I am with mine. The just wish that it worked with my Razr phone, but none of the adapters fit it.

3 of 5 FM radio doesn't work Friday, February 15, 2008

The FM radio does not work at all. I can only get AM and very static-laden weather band. Still a good value if ever could be used in an emergency

5 of 5 A great buy for $10.99 Thursday, January 24, 2008
Jack Beery from Dayton, Ohio
I think the construction is quite good. It has a couple of nickel cad batteries in it. That is the only power I have used and it works good. At the present time I have it set on the weather band and I am getting good reception. It hold two D cells; I have installed them but have put a piece of paper between the two batteries to make sure I preserve them for an emergency. The negatives; it does not have a connector so I can charge my Verizon cell phone and the thermometer reads about ten degrees low at 70F. Still great for the car. One emergency would make this worth the money. No emergency-still a great buy.

5 of 5 Cool little machine Wednesday, January 23, 2008
LB from Tempe, AZ
This small and inexpensive item seems to be just the emergency item to keep one connected to the world in the event of a longer power outage. It is cheap enough to keep on the shelf even if you never use it. And I hope we don't ever have to use it.

5 of 5 A life saver! Tuesday, January 22, 2008
A Customer from San Francisco, Ca
This is a awesome device. It was a life saver for me during the worst storm in San Francisco in 20 years.I was without electricity for 2 days and I didn't have any batteries for my other flashlight. This product work like it suppose to work. A few crank and I had the up todate news on the radio and had the flashlight going. I use the sunlight(solar panel) to recharge it and I didn't have to crank it for 8 hrs. For the price of this product is a no brainer. I end up buying 3 more! I highly recommended to everyone! Have one handy at home and it will work for you!

2 of 5 "You get what you pay for" Thursday, January 17, 2008
tjreditor from Oklahoma
What do you expect for $10.99? Poor quality throughout, but hopefully it will work, at least minimally, when and if I ever need it. I just may have to buy one of those Red Cross emergency radios to make sure I have a communications reception device of some sort in an emergency. I just don't think I can trust this $10.99 beauty.

1 of 5 Broken! Wednesday, January 16, 2008
A Customer from Pawtucket, RI
When I received the radio it only worked if plugged in which defeats the purpose. I found out the wire to the battery was broken. I went on to fix this and now it works with the rechargeable battery, however the solar panels seemed to be broken like a mirror. If all things worked I would give it a 5, but I received a broken radio.

1 of 5 Cheaply Made Wednesday, January 16, 2008
sic0048 from South Carolina
I got two of these to put in our cars. I figured it would be great to have a flashlight, cell phone charger and radio that you could crank to work. You would never have a dead cell phone or flashlight when you're broken down and need it most. That being said, the product does NOT live up to expectation. While I wasn't expecting the best quality, these things are terrible. One of the two broke within minutes of unpacking it. The LED flashlight/flasher will not work anymore. Hopefully it is a bad wire connection and I can get it working again, but I hate to see what it does after being in a car trunk for a while. Unfortunately I would not trust these to work when you really need them. The cell phone charger adapters are limited and generally for older cell phones. It doesn't have the mini-USB connector I need for my Motorola phone, so that doesn't help me at all. So in summary, don't waste your money, even if they are on sale.

1 of 5 Ordered Two units, both broken Tuesday, January 15, 2008
Stephen from Stanford, Ca
My gosh. I received two units and both were broken. Not only did the on/off switch was missing but the solar panels were cracked. I’m sure you read the other reviews and many people gave this unit five stars. I guess if mine were working, it could have received a few stars. However, after I received two broken units I would give them -1 stars if I could.

5 of 5 Much Better Than Nothing Monday, January 14, 2008
A Customer from Saint Charles, MO
I first got one Survivor 10-in-1 for my wife and I. It works as advertised. Certainly not hi-fi radio we're talking about here, but we can hear the local weather station. Wish they'd have been able to charge a USB-cabled phone like my KRZR, but cie la vie. My car charger can do that. It earned my approval, so I got two more units for my kids' house/apartment. They are both too naive to think that far ahead and the bright yellow color will probably make it easy to find amongst the clutter. I encouraged them to put it by the window to keep the solar battery charged and so they'll know where it is.

5 of 5 Emergency Radio/Light/Cell Charger Thursday, January 10, 2008
H. Rich from Portsmouth, VA
You can't beat it for the price. If you only use it once in an emergency it is worth the money. As you would expect the radio tuner is not the greatest, but it does work. Having so many power sources (crank, solar, battery and DC) means you will always have a way to power it up. Not a bad item for ANY household. Great gift idea for anyone on a fixed budget.

3 of 5 Get what you pay for Tuesday, January 08, 2008
A Customer from Tn
The radio works fine. The cell charging unit is out-dated. The lite no longer works after about 3 uses, but the siren will still get your attention. The thermometor only goes down to 20 farenheit. Overall, its ok for the money, but dont plan on using it frequently, as it wiil not hold up.It is probably worth the money.

5 of 5 Can't charge cell phone from solar Monday, January 07, 2008
Bill from Brighton, CO
For those lucky enough (like me) to have an adapter that fits their cell phone, note that the solar cells don't power the cell phone charger. However, the hand crank works fine for charging, and the rest of the features are what I expected for $10. Handy to have around in case of emergency.

4 of 5 Not Great, but Functional Saturday, January 05, 2008
Rick from Vestal, New York
As others have noted, the radio works but the sound quality is poor - it reminds me of the old transistor radios from the 1960s and 1970s. One of the cell phone adapters fits my Nokia 6030 and charges it, but you'd have to crank for a long time to significantly charge up the phone battery. None of the adapters fit my Motorola C168 phone. The solar cell works well in either daylight or under florescent lamps. For the price I paid ($10.00 and free shipping), I can't complain. I placed my order on December 14 and it arrived on December 31.

5 of 5 Not bad for $10 ! Saturday, January 05, 2008
A Customer from Northern Kentucky
I actually picked up a handful of these - 1 for each vehicle, 1 for the house, and a few for relatives. Despite other negative review's I've read, I think I got a great deal for the price. The units do what they say and will be stored away for emergency use. I would definately recommend this for the $10 I paid.

1 of 5 IT'S TOO LATE FOR ME ... Friday, January 04, 2008
Dave from Palmyra, NY
... but save yourself!! You would be better off throwing your money in the street; you'd still be out the $$$, but with no aggravation. When I opened the box, saw the flashlight and handled it, I laughed. I still laugh remembering the cheapness of the build. It was 60 degrees in my dining room according to the thermometer, even though my thermostat read 71 degrees. I thought that was funny. The weather radio did get a fairly decent signal, but the speaker sounds tinny. Forget AM. Even FM was ... how shall I say this ... somewhat wanting. The 3-LED light is pretty bright and the siren is interesting. Fortunately, the rechargeable battery had a charge. Why, you ask? I'll tell you: when I started to crank the "dynamo" charger - not forcefully and clockwise, as the instructions pointed out - there was a cracking sound and then the handle turned freely. Too freely. Yep; broke the "dynamo" handle. I figured, what the heck ... let's open up this baby and see what's going on in there. It was easy to open and watch the shattered pieces fall out. Cheap plastic? You'd have to go up two stories to GET to cheap plastic! I wasn't even angry. Hey, it's $10, you know? I thought it was funny that I thought I might get something good for that amount of cash, though. I'll never learn. Well, it got a 2 in value and 4 in ease of use ... the light works, the weather radio works and there is a spot for batteries. I guess I'll try the solar charger, but .... Anyways, save your money and get something that stays together for more than five minutes. Good luck!

5 of 5 this thing is great Friday, January 04, 2008
A Customer from Cambridge, MA
It's well designed and amazingly, everything works painlessly. I tried doing something like this for a class before so I know it isn't easy to get all the power sources working together. Oh, and even just for the parts (solar supply, etc.) it's well worth the money.

5 of 5 Good emergency radio for the price. Thursday, January 03, 2008
A Customer from Round Rock, TX
Don't expect the same quality in $40-60 units, but expect a decent radio, good flashlight and an interesting set of features to keep you entertained when you are locked in the basement or closet. Reception from my area to the weather band was very weak and the AM radio worked as I'd expect manual tuning to work. Definitely a nice item to have around in an emergency especially for the price. Found an undocumented siren feature if you set the lamp to FLASH and turn the radio on.

5 of 5 Great product for the money Thursday, January 03, 2008
Buttmud from Wilson, NC
I am very happy with the flashlight I paid 10 bucks for. It doesn't feel as cheap as some of the crank up ones I have seen. Radio is OK and has the weatherband frequency on there I never had. Never know when you will be without power needing a weather forcast. Also comes with a thermometer on it. May never need it but I am glad its there. I knew it didn't come with a lg phone charger so I can't complain about that. I really can see this 10 dollar gadget being able to really help out in a crisis.

5 of 5 Still Waiting! Wednesday, January 02, 2008
A Customer from Corydon, IN 47112
I still have not received the product I ordered in mid-December. This is unusual for Buy.com. Or could it be the USPS? It sounds like this should be a good product for the price but I can't say as of yet(January 2, 2008).

5 of 5 I was dissapointed somewhat, but it's still good. Wednesday, January 02, 2008
Vern Kirkman from Orleans, IN
The product works well, but the wires to the solar panel were poorly soldered. One had already come off when I opened the package, and the other wire fell off almost immediately. However, all the features other than that worked as advertised, and my wife was pleased with it, so it's still okay. I'd still give it a 5.

Just used the item today and put it by the window in the sun and let it play the radio all day. Oh well the item has a working flashlight, radio, and emergency flasher so thats all I wanted it for.

2 of 5 good radio for the money Wednesday, January 02, 2008
Curly Joe from Cleveland Ohio
I ordered 5 of these for Christmas gifts. The radio is great and works well if it happens to have a cell phone connector for your brand of phone. I got lucky and the charger does work. Unfortunately buy.com's customer service is getting worse and worse. After repeated attempts it wasn't shippped for 4 days. Then it didn't arrive until December 31st. 0 out of 5 for effort on their part.

5 of 5 good safety device to have on hand for cheap Wednesday, January 02, 2008
A Customer from Clovis, CA
I think I paid 8 bucks shipped, but that's a steal as far as i'm concerned. This thing does all sorts of great stuff with no need for electricity. it has a hand crank to make electriicty, it has batteries and it has a solar panel, so you can charge your cell phone with any of the 5 or 6 cell phone charger attachments, it has a radio, fm or am and also the lights on the flashlight are LED, so they use nearly no power to put out a bright light. It has a dual red flashing LED light feature for use on the side of the road as a flare too, good feature. anyway, it's all pretty good for really cheap

5 of 5 Good backup Wednesday, January 02, 2008
jw from Fayetteville, AR
For $10 total, I didn't expect high quality. But the gadget seems to work as described by Buy.com. I never seem to have batteries that work when the power goes out, so liked the idea of the hand crank & solar cell. The flash light (LED) and radio worked right out of the box with just a minute of cranking. The sound quality is cheesy, so won't want to listen if anything else is available. I doubt it will hold up to heavy use, but should satisfy the need in a pinch. The selection of cell phone connectors didn't cover my phone, a Moto Razr.

5 of 5 Good value! Wednesday, January 02, 2008
Bob from Alabama from 35121
This is a must have for emergency situations. The price was comparable to an ad I saw at a local Macy's, but I did not have to waste time or gas. My only complaint is the fact that the cell phone adapters do not include my LG phone.

5 of 5 Good for emergency use Wednesday, January 02, 2008
A Customer from Greenville, SC
The crank really does power up the light and radio, and the radio has surprisingly good sound. Although the manual mentions that there are multiple plugs to fit cell phones and specifically mentions Sony-Ericcson, there is no plug that fits our Sony Ericcson phone. But all the other features work great.

4 of 5 Good Gift - Great for Power Outage - Weather Band Wednesday, January 02, 2008
My other brother - darrel from Oxford, MS
I purchased 7 for gifts & keep a couple for myself. Good value @ buy.com price but definately not worth the suggested list price. The radio, weather band, & lights work fine & will be useful in power outage situations. The storage for the crank could have been better designed though. I ordered on 12/18/07 & the order arrived 12/23/07. Very pleased with buy.com prompt shipping (free shipping). Overall it's a good value...

I bought two of these and both my kids have already used them. They had let there cell phones run down and were able to recharge them. My son had some car trouble and the flashlight came in so handy. They are light and very convienant and don't take up alot of space. Everyone needs one of these.

4 of 5 Worth it, good if no power Monday, December 31, 2007
Joe from Morris County, New Jersey
The best thing about this is the light. If there's a power outage, you don't have to worry about batteries, just crank the handle about a min. or 2; it's very bright. The radio and weather band are good in this case also. The flasher light is a useful warning light. The alarm isn't really loud enough and I have a 4 year old cellphone which fit none of the adaptors. The thermometer is just an extra for me.
