In a very clearly written and well-researched book, Parenti debunks the idea that neo-cons, shallow flag-wavers, and the like are "patriotic." Au contraire -- they are the opposite of patriotic. He gives many examples in areas such as recent history, militarism, the mixing of religion and politics, and the repression of dissent. A good example from recent history describes the close relationship shared by Prescott Bush, grandfather of our current resident, G.W.Bush, and Hitler's Nazi regime. That chapter is particularly enlightening, especially page 119. But,please don't take my word for it -- read this book with an open mind, then pass it on. Everyone in our democracy should read this wonderful book and see in words a confirmation of what REAL patriotism is all about. Was this review helpful?
