When he arrived on the island, though, he was in for a big surprise. Mario found himself at the beginning of another great adventure filled with friends, foes and, of course, plenty of classic hop-and-bop action.

5 of 5 Mario is Back Sunday, August 25, 2002 A Gamer from Powhatan, VA
For all those gamers out there, put in shock since the GCN's launch title didn't include a Mario game, it's finally here. The game was far worth the wait, with a great challenge, very few flaws, and beyond a doubt, one of the most fun games you'll ever play.
The flaw I mentioned had to do with the graphics, they are beyond good, but not quite up to par with today's best titles. There's a few places in the game that lack quality textures that you'd hope to expect. But what the game lacks in graphics, it makes up for in gameplay. Mario is able to jump about endlessly with more moves and interaction with his environment.
To finish off, I will just say, if there's a reason for somebody to get a Gamecube, this game is definately it. Was this review helpful?

I've had this game for a few days now, and it wears me out worring if I'm going to land on a dime after jumping 50-100 feet. The music is classic, the graphics are sweet (although every character besides Mario and the Princess are sooo generic), the controls are perfect, the enemies are cheap and repetitive, but the overall difficulty makes me put this game back on the self after a couple hours' worth of playing. I recommend this game because there's nothing else that's any good on this Gamecube system. I say buy it because who knows how many times every other game is going to keep getting pushed back.
