Even as 10-year-old Spoon Gilmore copes with the recent death of his grandmother, he worries that he is beginning to forget her. Thinking he needs something physical to remember his grandmother by, Spoon becomes determined to find the perfect object to symbolize his special relationship with her. Spoon's efforts are thwarted by his pesky kid sister (who is dealing with the loss in her own unique way) and his grandfather, who changes the subject whenever Spoon mentions his grandmother. When Spoon finally finds the object he seeks, he acts without thinking, and his simple plan to honor the memory of his grandmother becomes a lot more complicated.
