Things open up with a surprise, in the form of an all-out heavy metal breakdown. But the album soon settles down into a more traditional hip-hop groove. Tela's "Rider" is a slick slice of '90s hip-hop, with a nice fuzz-guitar backdrop. His rapid-fire vocal style, coupled with a melodic chorus, make for a strong track. | | 8-Ball and MJG team up for "Just Like Candy," another rap jam with a strong musical accompaniment. In fact, the music, not the raps, is what carries this disc, as almost every cut features a smooth, well-mixed R & B groove. The topics are everyday life in the 'hood, ladies, luxury cars, various kinds of pleasure and the pursuit thereof . Thankfully, not much is said about slinging dope or blowing away rival gangsters. There are some thoughtful, raw messages here, but overall, this is more of a mellow party disc. | Producer: T-Mix (Compilation) | Engineer: Roger Tausz |
