 Editor's Note
WEST WING creator Aaron Sorkin presents a revealing and very funny look at the backstage workings of a late-night comedy sketch show in STUDIO 60 ON THE SUNSET STRIP. The show (which is named STUDIO 60) is plummeting in the ratings and it looks like the network, NBS, might be about to axe it. In a last ditch attempt to revive STUDIO 60's fortunes, two new writers, Matt Albie (Matthew Perry) and Danny Tripp (Bradley Whitford), are brought on board by the network's new president, Jordan McDeere (Amanda Peet). Everyone involved with the show seems to be suffering from an impending sense of doom, but they have to pull together to get the show ready for its weekly Friday night time slot, providing plenty of laughs in the process. This release includes every episode from the show.

| | Professional Reviews | Empire 4 stars out of 5 -- "The scripts are tight, and the storylines as intricately constructed as they are biting." 02/01/2008 p.146Uncut 5 stars out of 5 -- "[D]azzling....[A] splendid jeremiad against the timidity and mediocrity of television..." 03/01/2008 p.124 Variety 8 of 10 Despite conventional wisdom that augurs against the success of a TV show about TV, it's hard not to root for "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip," a series that weds Aaron Sorkin's crackling dialogue and willingness to tackle big ideas with a beyond-stellar cast...In essence, Sorkin and collaborator Thomas Schlamme have devised a modern-day "Network," and they don't shy away from the analogy but rather hit it straight on, as the legendary producer of "Studio 60" -- a "Saturday Night Live"-type sketch show -- implodes on air with a breathless tirade. Played by Judd Hirsch, he makes like Howard Beale, urging viewers to change channels and saying that in the timeless struggle between art and commerce, "Art is getting its ass kicked"...In the interim, it will be fascinating to see if Sorkin's latest rage against the machine can achieve a balance that doomed anchorman Beale couldn't -- staying just mad enough to keep the audience watching without becoming so crazy as to warrant termination. - Brian Lowry

In a time of reality tv shows, Studio 60 came along and challenged viewers to follow the smart story lines. This show was as well written as West Wing but the show failed becuase the audience looking for slapstick sitcoms and bimbos in bathing suits eating insects couldn't follow the plot. I loved this show, despite every attempt by NBC to make me dump it when they dumped it. Thanks to Tivo, I've seen every show, I've followed every character, worrying how their network would make changes to their show. I never got into West Wing, but this show made me appreciate how great an actor Matthew Perry is, and how hard it must be to stand up to a network when you have created a show that you've poured your soul into. Good luck Aaron Sorkin- I hope your next project is better appreciated then this one was. I hope that this might live again on another network or cable channel- it would be worth it.
