Tom Witzky (Kevin Bacon), husband and father of a precocious young son, finds his blue-collar Chicago existence altered after he is hypnotized at a neighborhood party. What started as a diversion turns disturbing as a post-hypnotic suggestion releases a subconscious power Tom didn't know he had--clairvoyant visions of murder. As these visions start to come true, he comes into contact with several disturbed spirits. In order to let them rest in peace, he must bring their killers to justice, without compromising his own sanity.

Chicago telephone lineman Tom Witzkey (Bacon) is hypnotized at a party by his sister-in-law (Douglas) and begins seeing the ghost of a neighborhood girl murdered years before. He comes to the discovery that he is a Receiver--one who is able to see spirits. Now in possession of knowledge he never wanted to know, Tom struggles through his daily existence plagued by these newly-acquired supernatural visions while attempting to retain his sanity.

This movie did have a hint of 6th sense, but not enought to say that it was a ride off. The picture looked great, but I was more impressed with the directional sound of this thriller.Whispering voices were coming from the left and right..scary!
I was pretty impressed with Bacons acting on the whole. Definately a movie to see on DVD! Was this review helpful?

It was nice to see Kevin Bacon in something new. I think he did a great job in this one. The movie had good special effects and suspense to it. If you've seen 'The Sixth Sense' then you will like this one. It was better than I expected it to be. Was this review helpful?

I was one of the few people who hated the Sixth Sense. When I saw this movie first, I reserved judgement until I saw both. After seeing the other, I decided that Stir Of Echoes was way better. There are a few flaws in the film, and part of the ending may not be very original, but for the most part this movie is suspenseful, well written, and very well acted. Was this review helpful?
