| | Professional Reviews | The Cavalcade Of Schlock 8 of 10 [Graveyard] Of all filmed Stephen King adaptations, Graveyard Shift is one of the most poorly-received, so I guess it helps sometimes to have infinitesimal expectations, because I enjoyed this one quite a bit. I don't remember the short story that well, since I haven't read it since junior high...But overall, this is a creepy, surprisingly effective little flick that most viewers probably hate anyway. As far as King adaptations go, I'd put this one on about a par with The Dark Half - for different reasons, mind you. Hey. I enjoyed it. But then, I enjoyed The Mangler. - Brian J Wright DVD Verdict 8 of 10 [Pet] Since I'm a horror buff, it states in my contract that I have to at least like some of the film adaptations of King's novels. Like I mentioned before, they are spotty at best. But Pet Sematary rises above the rest to become a very satisfying horror film, filled with images of terror and fright reserved usually for family reunions. Dale Midkiff turns in a subtle performance as Louis Creed, patriarch of a family that's about to go down the tubes faster than a pile of eight day old Chinese food. His performance is very controlled, all the way up to the very last shoot (and it's a doozy). Fred Gwynne also gives one of his last and best screen turns as a man who realizes his mistake when he opens his yapper about the Micmac burial grounds. - Patrick Naugle DVD Active 9 of 10 [Silver] Silver Bullet is one of Stephen King's better movie adaptations. It is a good night's entertainment and it allows you to relive the years when movies were not just about special effects. The transfer is excellent for such an old movie. Sadly the audio and extras don't live up to the high standards set for widescreen presentation. For fans of this movie I would recommend buying this release as it doesn't seem to be available in any other region and the transfer is excellent. - Richard Schuchardt Chicago Sun-Times 9 of 10 [Dead] "The Dead Zone" does what only a good supernatural thriller can do: It makes us forget it is supernatural. Like "Rosemary's Baby" and "The Exorcist," it tells its story so strongly through the lives of sympathetic, believable people that we not only forgive the gimmicks, we accept them. There is pathos in what happens to the Christopher Walken character in this movie and that pathos would never be felt if we didn't buy the movie's premise...They all work together to take a movie that could have been just another scary thriller, and turn it into a believable thriller -- which, of course, is even scarier. - Roger Ebert
