5 of 5 Nice little unit Tuesday, February 19, 2008 BJ from Redmond, WA
I like the small size, and haven't as yet run into any abnormal heat problems. I noticed one of the reviewers had trouble inserting memory cards. It WOULD be nice if the manufacturer labeled the slots if you have a lot of different types of cards. But for me and my USB sticks, CF cards, and SD cards it works just fine. The small size is great and it's easily put in a laptop bag. Was this review helpful?
2 of 2 customers found this review helpful. 4 of 5 Easy to use, odd plug layout, a little hot Monday, December 31, 2007 A Customer from Riverside, CA
The Startech 3 Port USB 2.0 Hub w/ 16 in 1 Card Reader worked right out of the box no drivers needed for XP or Vista. The optional power supply (used if higher power connectivity is required) was small enough to fit into standard outlet.
After connecting everything and leaving it connected for a day, I noticed a lot more heat around my PC. Touching the Hub/Reader it was pretty hot. Now that I've disconnected the power supply (as I'm not using all the ports/readers) it has cooled somewhat but still not as cool as it came from the package. Keep it out of enclosed workstation desks if you're going to power it up as the extra heat is more than expected.
The plug layout is a little odd with small USB connected (used from PC to hub) is on the back with one full sized USB plug and power. The other two full-sized USB plugs are on the side. It works but having connectors all around the box makes it more difficult for placement.
All in all, it works great and I'm keeping it. I just want to warn about the heat and the layout as possible considerations. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 3ports of satisfaction Monday, October 08, 2007 Garret L, Martin. Theaverageyankee@hotmail.com from Oak Park Michigan
it's quite possivly the best hub I've ever used. I'd buy more if the price hadn't gone up. They've worked in all situations, I simply love this piece of technology. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Which slot is for what? Thursday, September 27, 2007 A Customer from New York, NY
Pros:
Plugged in and worked right away.
Very cool that it has three USB ports as well as all the readers.
Compact and light
Doesn't need extra power but comes with power plug
Cons:
Nothing is marked so its a bit of a guess what should go in what slot.
Feels a bit "cheap" when inserting cards. Not very smooth mechanics. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 It works...but not perfect Wednesday, September 26, 2007 A Customer from NY
Memory cards are difficult to insert.
USB ports work well.

4 of 5 Versatile USB hub Friday, August 31, 2007 A Customer from Utah
This hub works well, but if I could do it over I would buy a hub without the card reader slots. A separate card reader would be better and then you don't sacrifice extra ports on the hub. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 I needed a small USB hub - Flash reader was a bonu Friday, August 24, 2007 Ken R. from Richmond, Virginia
Lacking any USB 2.0 ports on the front of my PC, I needed a little USB hub to make it easy to connect devices to the USB 2.0 card on the back of my computer. This device did the trick. The fact that is is also a multiple format flash card reader is just a bonus. No more getting on my knees to swap USB devices.
Includes the optional power supply. It was instantly recognized by my computer and works fine.
USB cable provided was on the short side - just long enough to reach to the front of the computer. I had to use another cable I already had to put the hub where I wanted it to go.
All-in-all, not a bad little hub for the price. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Best single gadget to carry Wednesday, May 30, 2007 A Customer from Lake Tahoe, NV
Hasn't disappointed me yet. I've never yet used the AC adapter with the laptop plugged in, and most devices (like a USB keyboard or mouse) are powered OK through the hub even with the laptop on batteries. Very small and light. You may need the directions to figure out where some memory cards plug in! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 So far so good Monday, May 28, 2007 sully from Harrisburg, PA
I really only have one type of card (CF) so I'm not sure about the speed of reading from the other types. But so far this card reader has done the trick. I bought it with keeping in mind that my next camera won't be using Compact Flash. This reader is compact and it can be powered by a USB port on your computer (no brainer) or it has a cord to be powered by a wall outlet if your PC can't power it. I'm not sure why that would happen, perhaps on a Laptop if you had other things using the other USB ports or were using it as a USB hub. Bottom line great product at a great price. Buy.com was able to get this to me in about 26 hours with standard shipping. Not sure if they have a distrabution center close to me or what. Was this review helpful?
