5 of 5No "real" Serial Port...No Problem Wednesday, October 15, 2008 Patrick D from Frisco, TX
Most laptops (possibly all of them by now) no longer include traditional RS-232 serial ports, but I regularly use serial communications in my engineering work. I often find it necessary to monitor comms on two devices simultaneously.
As a person who has never had very good experiences with most USB-to-serial converter devices (they've never been very reliable for me), I was skeptical when a colleague recommended a PC-card style replacement. Now, I'm glad he did.
With this card, I now have two very stable and very reliable "real" RS-232 serial ports on my laptop. Install was very simple and the unit operates as well as any serial device I've ever owned.
Also, Buy.com's price on it was about $30 less than I had seen at other electronics sites. If you need to add a serial port (or two) to a laptop, I would strongly recommend buying this Startech CardBus serial adapter from Buy.com.
