 Editor's Note
THE ARK OF THE TRUTH continues STARGATE SG-1's Ori story. Taking the place of the series' anticipated but cancelled eleventh season and set chronologically before STARGATE ATLANTIS' fourth season. This feature-length film follows SG-1 as it tries to reclaim the Ark of Truth, which has the power to control people, and therefore, lead to total destruction. In CONTINUUM, the second feature-length film based in the STARGATE SG-1 universe, the SG-1 crew attends the execution of the nefarious Ba'al. But When Teal'c and Vala suddenly evaporate into thin air the rest of the crew heads back to Earth as quickly as possible in hopes to get to the bottom of their bizarre disappearances. What they find is worse than they could have ever imagined. A world in which the Stargate was never discovered awaits them, thus negating much of their own history and personal pasts. Both THE ARK OF THE TRUTH and CONTINUUM are beloved by fans, and now, with this double feature, the films are available together.

| | Professional Reviews | Apollo Movie Guide 6 of 10 [The Ark of Truth] I can't conceal the truth; the record is there for all to see. Long, long ago, way back before the Stargate SG-1 television series had achieved success and longevity, I panned the movie that started it all. And if you'd asked me back then whether it was likely to amount to a reasonably successful big-screen movie, a ten year run as a series, a spin-off of a new series, and a smattering of television movies to follow, I likely would have scoffed. Either that or made some cynical comment about what it takes to succeed in Hollywood...While I stand by my criticism of the original movie, I certainly can't deny the success of Stargate. So it's no surprise that the entertainment franchise built on a single gimmicky premise -- that of a portal through which it's possible to travel to all sorts of alien worlds that look an awful lot like earth at various stages of its history -- has come up with another movie, and another gimmick. Oh, the portal still exists, and now there's also the ark of truth, an ancient technology capable of wiping out the brainwashing of those who follow the dastardly Ori -- the current Great Threat to earth...Like with so many series and movies that are either long-running or based on other media, those who sit down to this movie as fans of its predecessors are likely to be happy with what they see, but those who are new to it are more likely to feel like they're sitting in on a private party. There's plenty of generic interstellar conflict and simplistic-character scene-chewing, but not a whole lot that's likely to win new viewers over...While it's been a long time since I trashed the original Stargate movie, I must say that this latest incarnation leaves me about equally cold. - Brian Webster DVD Talk 6 of 10 [Continuum] Stargate: Continuum is a relatively stand alone project that attempts to tie a lot of series history together, designed largely for fans over newcomers, and easier to follow than the recent Ark of Truth for those that haven't watched the show religiously (pun intended). The world is contemporary to our own and the space faring ways of our military are largely secret to the general population, the thought being that the public would panic if they knew how many times the program itself invited danger to Earth. In the years of the programs existence, we have made powerful enemies, powerful allies, and encountered a wide variety of sentient life forms that have alternately helped or hindered our progress; the program establishing principles of first contact and a code of conduct not completely alien to the Star Trek franchises Prime Directive...Stargate: Continuum seemed to suffer from the same issues the series fell prey to since the show was taken over by the Sci-Fi Channel; budgets too low to support the ideas at hand being the biggest problem of all...The acting was about average for the series and fans wanting one last go will find it worthwhile to check out but make no mistake, this should have been so much better that accepting it as a wonderful return to the series is about as far from the truth as could be. I'm not going to be one of the apologists blindly hawking the movie in hopes of another, better, release in the future; I expect the producers to give fans exactly what we deserve as loyal fans of the series (and nothing less). In all then, it was a pretty fair effort of the producers that will entertain you but I don't see this one making a lot of new fans as it should have done. - Don Houston
