 Editor's Note
Going boldly where no man had gone before, Gene Roddenberry's cult phenomenon STAR TREK debuted in 1966 and reflected that decade's optimistic preoccupation with space travel. Set in the 23rd century, the series chronicled the intergalactic adventures of the U.S.S. Enterprise on its five-year mission to explore the outer reaches of space. Encountering a now-iconic assembly of innovative alien life forms such as the Klingons, Romulans, Tribbles, and Khan Noonian Singh, the ship's jumpsuited crew was a then unheard-of font of multiculturism: Asian Sulu (George Takei), African-American Uhura (Nichelle Nichols), and Scotsman Montgomery Scott (James Doohan). But it was the contrasting personalities of cooly logical Vulcan Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy), emotionally intuitive medical officer Leonard "Bones" McCoy (DeForest Kelley), and womanizing ship captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner in definitive overacting mode) that lent the series much of its charm--and spawned a rabid cult following that continues to fuel costume sales and convention bookings to this very day. This collection includes the groundbreaking series' first three seasons. Beam me up, Scotty!

4 of 5 Great Visual Update Saturday, June 27, 2009 A Viewer from Deland Fl
The stories are the same so there is nothing new to report. If your not familiar with Star Trek this are good character driven stories. The graphics don't compare to newer star treks and the acting and story telling are very 60's. Lets face it, TV was less than 20 years old at this point. It certainly was better than what came before, but doesn't hold up to today shows. But that being said, if you like good character shows, science fiction and fun this is a good series.
What I most like about this DVD set is the visual update. The fake model and backgrounds from the original are gone and the new graphics are super. I was really happy, they didn't try to jump to the graphics of say the ST movies or the newer series, but the change was better than I expected and made the overall experience very enjoyable.
If you don't own the series yet, you can't beat this. If you already have an earlier version, just depends if you want to see the new look. Also the extra's where grand, really like Billy Blackburn's video treasures. This was one of the fill in characters. After seeing the 1/3 and becoming aware of the character, I noticed he was in every episode, usually on the bridge. Someone you would have never noticed.
I am very happy with the purchase and highly recommend it for star trek fans. Was this review helpful?

First a package description. Each of the 3 sets comes in its own custom innovative case(more about the cases later), Season-1 = 10 dual-sided DVDs, Season-2 8 DVDs, Season-3 7 DVDs for a total of 25. Side-A of each is high-def in the now obsolete "HD-DVD" format; Side-B is standard-def. The disc menu's are widescreen, the episodes of course are 4x3 format, changing automatically if fed thru HDMI. The extensive remastering is detailed in a feature of Season-1 disc-1: new CGI graphics, newly-recorded background music, etc., a smooth package. The special features can be tricky to access -- watch for "Additional Data" and ">>" buttons for more features. The cases are tricky also: an outer shell, an inner cardboard sleeve holding a book-style stack of trays hinged together on 1 edge, with disc-1 unprotected, all a hassle. A set of plastic index-cards lists the episodes on each disc. I immediately loaded all 25 discs into a 400-disc megachanger to avoid the hassle. Otherwise I would have considered putting the discs into individual thin jewel-cases or clam-shell cases for better protection. The many special features detail casting, incidents, current activities of cast-members, etc. Altogether a great package, priced right. Was this review helpful?

I've been a fan of the original series since I was a boy. This show set a new level for a Sci Fi series and paved the way for many more to follow.
I'd seen a few of the remastered shows on television and decided that I wanted to own the complete set. I've not been disappointed. It's great re-visiting the enterprise, especially seeing it, in all it's amazing CGI glory.
If you enjoy the show and want to see the best in current effects wizardry, then this set is for you. You'll love it. Was this review helpful?

As big fans of the series my wife and I were anxious to purchase the full 3 season set when it became available. I shopped around and found Buy.com having the best price and I pre-ordered it since it was not yet shipping. It arrived early, to our pleasent surprise. Upon opening and examining it we noticed that the discs were double sided and that one side was in HD-DVD. OK, so obviously these were manufactured before the outcome of the Hi Def DVD wars were over and now with Blue Ray winning those wars the only thing one can do to watch these in Hi Def is to find a HD-DVD player...Does Buy.com have any for sale???
