| | | Features: DVD, Widescreen, Dolby, Dolby Digital (5.1), Dolby Surround Sound Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and the Next Generation crew engage in their most thrilling adventure yet - a sci-fi action event that "stands proud and apart" (Richard Corliss, Time). They call themselves the Borg - a half-organic, half-machine collective with a sole purpose: to conquer and assimilate all races. Led by their seductive and sadistic queen (Alice Krige), the Borg are headed to Earth with a devious plan to alter history. Picard's last encounter with the Borg almost killed him. Now, he wants vengeance. But how far will he go to get it? Costarring Alfre Woodard and James Cromwell and bursting with spectacular special effects, Star Trek First Contact is one action film that "has it all" (Jim Ferguson, Preview Channel).
 Editor's Note
The Borg have once again targeted the Federation; this time, their devious plot threatens not only the present, but Earth's past as well. While Commander Riker, Deanna Troi, and Geordi La Forge work hard on the surface of 21st-century Earth to keep history on schedule, the rest of the crew plays a desperate game with the genetically-networked attackers above the planet, matching former Locutus Jean-Luc and cybernetically-naive Data against the erotic, mechanized cunning of the Borg queen. Resistance is futile.

5 of 5 One of the best DVD's available Sunday, March 05, 2000 A Viewer from
Not just one of the best trek DVDs this is one of the best DVDs of any kind. The sound is unrivaled if you have 5.1 surround sound. If you don't have it get it before you play First Contact. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 The Best Star Trek Movie Yet Friday, December 31, 1999 Chris from New York, NY
When I want to watch a rerun of a past star Trek motion picture, this is the one I want to see- - over and over. In the conext of the Star trek series it has a fast paced plot, supported by good acting and directing. Further, it has great special effects battle sequences that are de rigeur when ever a Borg cube shows up with bad intent.
In any event. If you like Star Trek the next Generation, you will really enjoy this film. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 The best Next Genenration movie made so far! Saturday, December 18, 1999 Kiurius from Alexandria, Virginia
I like this movie's action-packed plot and great special effects. The Borg queen is a truely novel concept. The Next Generation trek is often slow paced and contemplative (non-scientifically, alas) compared with the original series; but not in this particular case! This entry is comparable to some of the original's best, like the Undiscovered Country, Wrath of Khan and Voyage Home. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Star Trek at its' best Thursday, November 25, 1999 Claws from Warwick, RI
Second only to The Undiscovered Country, this eighth movie in a long line of hits continues the tradition. Acting is still only on par as far as Spiner and Stewart are concerned; all others are still TV actors. Excellent plot and awesome visual effects. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 A Rewarding Experience Sunday, July 25, 1999 jfelicia from Bloomington, IN
This movie is a clear and honest testament to Star Trek and science fiction. This movie may very well be the best Star Trek film to date. Although this is the second movie for this cast, it is really the first movie that they truly stand on their own. The special effects are in abundance but well thought out and the acting by such well-rounded actors, such as Alfre Woodard and Patrick Stewart, gave the movie a certain essence that makes this movie unique. For the Trekkies out there, this movie is a landmark for new technologies and plot development for the Star Trek Legend. To those who don't like or watch Star Trek, this movie will get you hooked.
