Feel the rush of yet another brand new direction in hip-hop where rappers can harmonize, music is actually played—not sampled, musical boundaries are non-existent and the lyrics are otherworldly in their delivery though every line hits home? That’s "Stankonia." Pronounced Stank-O-nee-ya. A place where "there’s a certain type of freedom going on in the music, used in a liberating way," the group explains. An album that will only add to the accolades for hip-hop’s beloved Outkasts. With the "Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik" album, then 18-year-old Andre "Dre" Benjamin and Antwan "Big Boi" Patton introduced themselves to those unaware of the ways of the S.W.A.T.S. (Southwest Atlanta Too Strong). Outkast always has to come with something different including the platinum blonde wig Dre was known to don during the last their last sold-out tour with Lauryn Hill.

The Atlanta-based critically acclaimed duo of Big Boi and Dre returns with yet another innovative contribution to hip-hop. STANKONIA, an album borrowing its title from the group-owned recording studio, continues Outkast's tradition of delivering groundbreaking music.
The two MCs cover topics that only they would rap about, over self-produced tracks that only they could make. Songs like "B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad)" are in contrast to the current hip-hop scene, with its bass music background, while "Ms. Jackson," a dedication to a baby's momma's momma, sports a soulful melody in the tradition of Outkast's previous efforts. Either way, Outkast still proves to be in its own elite class.

Artist Overview
Atlanta-based hip-hop duo Outkast succeeded in bringing an unorthodox rhyme style and quirky, P-Funk-influenced sound and presentation into the rap mainstream. Successful since their 1994 debut, Outkast have gotten progressively more idiosyncratic. Their sophomore release, ATLIENS, took musical and lyrical risks which were reflected in Outkast's video output, such as the Mars-meets-Egyptology production for the album's hit "Elevators." STANKONIA, released in 2000, cemented the duo's reputation as influential hip-hop innovators, while its ambitious follow-up, 2003's SPEAKERBOXXX/THE LOVE BELOW, made Outkast masterminds Andre 3000 and Big Boi international superstars.
