| | | An All-Star Smack Down That Will Get Fans Salivating...A Must-See Film! Features: DVD, Widescreen "A terse, satisfying Hong Kong actioner of the old school, Kill Zone offers a sight that will thrill genre devotees: a brutal battle between Iron Monkey's Donnie Yen and the still-nimble Sammo Hung. Before delivering that big finish, director Wilson Yip adds a few fresh spins on a familiar story about a team of cops determined to bring down Hung's big crime lord. The moments of lachrymose melodrama (everyone here has a father issue) gel surprisingly well with Kill Zone's otherwise ruthless sensibility." Editor's Note
Wilson Yip's dynamic crime thriller follows an aging cop (Simon Yam) so determined to take down the brutal gangster (Sammo Hung) responsible for the death of his god daughter that he resorts to ethically dubious tactics. His plans are complicated by his failing health, the sudden death of an undercover agent, and the arrival of an uptight, painfully honest new detective (Donnie Yen).

| | Professional Reviews | BeyondHollywood.com 10 of 10 "Advertised as a throwback to the days of gritty, hardcore Hong Kong action films, ""Sha Po Lang"" (currently going by the non-descriptive international title of ""SPL"") is certainly unlike anything flooding the industry at the moment. The first ten minutes of are presented in melancholy music, (literally) impact scenes, and a chance encounter between mob boss Po (Sammo Hung) and the little girl whose parents he had murdered. These moments signpost ""Sha Po Lang"" as very much a different animal than what we're currently used to from Hong Kong, and that is a very good thing indeed." Variety 9 of 10 "A terrific, brawny push to revive Hong Kong mano-a-mano fighting in a police thriller, ""SPL"" is an all-star smackdown thatwill get fans salivating. Although the police elements are drawn with a broad brush -- and with nods to early John Woo -- the main event is the action delivered by legend Sammo Hung and new star Wu Jing as crime lord and henchman, respectively, and by mainstream thesps Donnie Yen and Simon Yam, as cops at opposite ends of the ethics scale...Production package stresses the mean nocturnal streets in ways that recall Johnny To's best work." - Robert Koehler
