| | | "Neverland is a World Apart from Our Own, Home to Strange and Dangerous Creatures." A vicious circle of violence has erupted. The battle torn continent of Neverland is caught up in a great war between good and evil once again. Now, three young soldiers rise to put an end to this madness once and for all. In Spectral Souls, the player will switch between the three opposing kingdoms to play the Royal Demon Kingdom, the Imperial Army, or the Rebel Army. Depending on how you progress through the game with each of the forces, the story of the game will change. "...a well-planned, well-executed RPG..." GameZone "...if you were dying to have play a strategy RPG on the road, you don't have to wait any longer." PGNx Media
| | Features | | Area Map: Beyond the World Map, you'll explore a number of Area Maps where most battles and events will occur. On occasion, Area Maps will give access to other maps, such as castles. | | Conditions for Victory: Every battle has certain conditions you must meet in order to win. In Free Maps, you won't return to the World Map until you accomplish every condition. | | Historical Moments: After clearing a number of events, a Historical Moment will appear. This is a turning point in history that will alter the flow of events depending on which army you use to clear it. Your choices will determine the fate of a nation. | | Opening Event: When you start a new game, you'll be treated to an opening cinematic and prologue that sets the stage for the tale of Neverland. | | World Map: After completing the first series of battles, you'll move onto the World Map. From here, you can move to various areas and trigger events that progress the story. |
| | Professional Reviews | Digital Entertainment News 8 of 10 The story is nothing revolutionary on the surface; the Imperial Neverland Army, also known as the Demon Army, are the powers that be and have been ruthlessly raiding villages. The first force to rise up against this injustice is the Reformed Simba Empire. Eventually, a third force, the Rozess Liberation Army, arises offering a third path -- one that they believe would ensure peace and freedom for everyone...When you get right down to it, the story is basically the concept of Sega's classic, Shining Force 3, only with all three parts integrated into a single game. The idea is to tell the story of a great war from all three sides of a three-way clash, making each seem sympathetic when you're with them, but kinda scary when you're controlling one of the other sides...Yet to write off Spectral Souls as a mere Shining Force 3 clone would be a mistake. The battle system is far more advanced. In fact, the game has so much depth, it's actually pretty darn intimidating for anyone who might be a newcomer to the TSRPG subgenre...The game is very complex, and at times may simply be too complex for anyone other than true TSRPG-subgenre fans to truly appreciate. But for sheer depth and complexity, for sheer hardcore gameplay and for finally delivering a real TSRPG on the PSP platform -- the first of its kind, really, since Final Fantasy Tactics Advance on GBA -- on-the-go gamers now have a title to revel in and enjoy its nearly 100 hours of play-time wherever their day takes them, rather than trying to find 100 free at-home hours in which to complete a similar home console-based title...Spectral Souls is food for the TSRPG fan's spectral soul, but more mainstream-style fans may feel left out in the cold by the game's mad-depth, complexity and difficulty level. On the upside, those words are music to hardcore fans' ears. - Craig Hansen
