| | | Features: DVD, Widescreen, Pan and Scan (TV Format), Special Edition, Director's Cut Space Jam, produced by Ivan Reitman, is "an ingenious blend of live-action comedy and cutting-edge animation" (Gene Shalit, The Today Show). The story begins with Bugs Bunny and his Looney Tunes cohorts in a real jam. The Nerdlucks, a grouchy gang of tiny space creatures, have been dispatched to Earth by their ruthless boss, Swackhammer (voice by Danny DeVito) to kidnap and export the Looney Tunes to the Nerdluck's boring planet to save Moron Mountain, Swackhammer's failing theme park. Bugs suggests a winner-take-all basketball game, unaware that the aliens are secretly armed with the ability to "absorb" talent (and height) from Earth's top basketball players. The Looney Tunes capture their own secret weapon, Michael Jordan, and transport him to Looney Tunes Land to play in the big game. Can the motley crew of MIchael Jordan and the Tune Squad fight off the Monstars on the court and ensure their futures on Earth? Anything is possible in Space Jam's comic land of imagination. This Special Edition DVD is jamming with awesome special features, including commentary by Bigs, Daffy and director Joe Pytka, three music videos and more! "Wild! Wacky! Jubilant!" Gene Shalit, Today/NBC-TV "...a kick for both grownups and the small fry." Thomas Quinn, Box Office Magazine "...littered with laughs..." Peter Stack, San Francisco Chronicle

A live-action/animated comic adventure.
 Plot Summary
"Space Jam" marks the film debut of basketball legend Michael Jordan, who plays himself opposite some rather "colorful" co-stars...| When the Looney Tunes bunch are kidnapped to another planet by the dastardly Swackhammer, Bugs Bunny challenges them to a basketball game to win their freedom. But when the hulking opposing team, the Monstars, sap the talent from such popular hoopsters as Patrick Ewing and Charles Barkley, the Looney Tuners realize they're in deep trouble. In response, they enlist the aid of Michael Jordan, who trains and later joins the squad.| It's gonna be a wild 'n wacky, high flyin', slam-dunk of a game -- with everything at stake for Bugs and company. Can "Air" Jordan lead them to a victory?|

| | Professional Reviews | Variety "...Cute, rambunctious....[A] clever mix of live action, highlighted by the unequaled skills of basketball superstar Michael Jordan..." 11/18/1996Los Angeles Times "...Handsome, ingenious....Director Joe Pytka brings maximum impact and pace to every moment..." 11/15/1996 p.F1 Chicago Sun-Times "...SPACE JAM is a happy marriage of good ideas -- three films for the price of one..." 11/15/1996 p.35 Leonard Maltin's Movie & Video Guide 7 of 10 (Michael) Jordan is very engaging, the vintage characters perform admirably...and the computer-generated special effects are a collective knockout. Chicago Sun-Times 7 of 10 Space Jam is a happy marriage of good ideas--three films for the price of one, giving us a comic treatment of the career adventures of Michael Jordan, crossed with a Looney Tunes cartoon and some showbiz warfare... the result is delightful, a family movie in the best sense (which means the adults will enjoy it, too). - Roger Ebert Variety 6 of 10 Cute, rambunctious, generally amusing rather than outright funny, this clever mix of live action...and animated Looney Toons antics will be a must-see for kids... - Todd McCarthy
