5 of 5 Great Product - But Pricey Sunday, August 12, 2007 Bill from Beach Haven, NJ
I recently priced having my old BetaMovie tapes converted to DVD by a service. Decided to invest in this Sony stand alone DVD burner instead and have more than just DVDs after the transfer.
Very pleased with ease of use and not having to involve a PC in the operation. Just start the operation and go away for a couple hours, come back, finalize the DVD, and start the next one. The burned DVD's play OK on every DVD player I've used. What more can one say, it delivers as advertised
Now my neighbors want to use it to transfer their old videos.

5 of 5 Just what the (Tech) dr. ordered... Tuesday, May 29, 2007 RW from Queens, NY
As a VJ who needs the immediate cabability to record digital video from either video turntables, video mixer or camera this is an essential recorder. It's portability and size makes it suitable to occupy space on my table without creating clutter. Its ability to switch over to being a CD/DVD drive once connected to my laptop via usb doubles my ability to burn and rip video for editing, etc. The multiple inputs are simply genius. Highly recommended from a very satisfied customer. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Sony's VRD-MC3 Friday, May 25, 2007 Don from Monticello, Mn.
For the most part my experience was very good with the VRD-MC3. Because I wanted to eliminate some of the unwanted parts of the video tape I found that the VRD-MC3 had the option to pause the recording & continue the input video giving me the edit opportunity. For most of pauses this worked fine but later in the first DVD recording a problem occurred & it locked up the balance of the DVD & I was not able to play what I thought was recorded from the lock up to the end. I can only assume that the problem did occur because of numerous pauses & that the VRD-MC3 got tired of me doing it and told me so. After that first problem, I decided that I would try again & not do any pauses & because of this I did several more DVD's without pauses & had no glitches at all. Keeping this in mind I will probably avoid using the pause option in the future. Would I buy the VRD-MC3 again/; Yes I would. I look forward to making many more DVD from old VHS & super 8 tapes. I purposely used both some DVD-R discs & DVD+R discs & found that both worked just fine.

5 of 5 Saving VHS & Hi8 tapes with Sony SRDMC3 Sunday, May 13, 2007 A Customer from Herriman, Utah
I have connected and used my Sony Hi8 Camcorder and created DVDs. I have connected and used my Go.Video DVD/VHS Dual Deck Player/Recorder and created DVDs both from DVDs and VHS Tapes. I have been very pleased with the results in each case. I have dozens of VHS tapes and Hi8 tapes that I am looking forward to "saving" in DVD format using the Sony VRDMC3. Was this review helpful?

I had a Sony HC96 Camcorder which I bought a year ago. I did a lot of shooting and never succeeded in copying the video to my PC. I called Sony tech support they insisted in buying an expensive Sony software to copy video to PC. After a year or so, I saw this device at a friend's place and got one for me.
It works like a charm from day one. I copied all my videos to 20 DVDs already. The picture clarity on DVD is as good as it comes with HC 96 (which is best in it's class). I'm jumping with joy and curse myself that I didn't know this product a year ago.
Only drawback I found is that I cannot record shows directly out of my TV. I need either a VCR or something like that.
But I'm happy with the performance. I use Momerex DVD+R which are damn good for the price and quality.
Thanks,
Sarma. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 I've finally preserved my home videos! Sunday, April 01, 2007 A Customer from San Diego, CA
I have been wanting to convert my home videos to DVD format for many years now. I no longer have a VCR hooked up to my TV and I heard that the tapes only last for about 14 years, or so and I didn't want to lose the early videos of my children and family. I got the Sony Direct burner yesterday, hooked up my old VCR that I saved and started burning DVD's right away. They look as good as you could hope for, considering how old the technology of the original recordings is and the recording process is very easy. I have newer DV tapes that should produce even better DVD's, once I get to them.
All I know is that I've been putting this project off for years, because I didn't want to load up my hard disc on my computer and now I am buring them directly and it couldn't be easier. I'm very pleased. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Connection Cables Most Important Friday, March 23, 2007 Alex from Fairlawn NJ
Connection cables are not supplied and are most important when trying to make DVD from standard video camera. The cables recommended in guidebook are difficult to locate and Sony doesn't properly identify them, even after calling and e-mailing Sony support . I still haven't identified them. Cable is i link on one side and DV-In ? on other side. (Not 4 pin to 4 pin). Only cable that worked with Panasonic DV camera was S video. After using S Video cables unit worked easily.
