I wanted a laptop that was a good deal lighter than my previous one without sacrificing power. This little notebook has it all--power, speed, storage, functionality--and weighs under 3 lbs. I'll keep this to the points you really want to know: PROS: 1) The screen is crisp and the color bright. This helps when working with a smaller screen size. I understand that some versions of this notebook have Blu-Ray. Mine doesn't, but I still have no complaints about watching TV or movies on it. 2) The case is light without seeming flimsy. Sony has engineered this notebook to be stylish, solid and well-designed. 3) The battery doesn't do 7 hours with the wifi on, but it does hold its own at about 5 hours. This is very respectable compared to many on the market. 4) The biometric security is a nice feature and is easy to learn. I'm getting spoiled not typing in my passwords. 5) The integrated webcam works fine and makes Skyping easy. 6) The included downgrade to XP from Vista enables easy integration with business networks (and speeds bootup). 5) The on/off button on the side of the hinge is nice, and the ports are sufficient and well-placed, except for the lack of a USB port on the right side or back for those of us using the occasional wired mouse. 5) The battery/processor doesn't seem to heat up after several hours of use. The fan is very quiet. 6) This notebook comes with 3GB RAM; for another $26, I swapped the 1-GB SODIMM with a 2GB SODIMM to use the max 4GB RAM. The hard drive is very decent size, but with external drives as cheap as they are, this is less of a consideration. 7) The footprint of this notebook is amazing. It's nice sitting in meetings being productive without taking up a lot of space on the conference table. Did I mention that it's less than 3lbs, too?! CONS: 1) The only complaint I have about it is that the smaller keyboard takes a bit of adjustment for somone used to a full-sized layout. Still, I have adjusted easily to typing on it and find myself using this notebook more than my desktop except when I work on large spreadsheets. 2) Software--Sony often puts a great deal of bloatware on their computers, but this one doesn't have a lot. It is almost as if they assume that these will go directly to the IT department for a standard installation package of applications. Still, unless you have extra licenses for MS Office etc. handy or are really into open source software, you will spend a few hundred more getting the apps in order. Overall, I am extremely happy with this notebook and consider it to be an excellent value for the money.
