Sony introduces Giga Panel technology the generation in digital entertainment for your car. Using its 1GB of built-in flash memory, the MEX-1GP CD player stores hours and hours of your favorite music at your fingertips, displaying track name and other file information up on the faceplate. Best of all, you can transfer MP3, WMA, and ATRAC3plus files directly from your PC to the stereo using the removable faceplate. Just take the face inside, connect it to your PC using the included USB cable, and quickly transfer your files over to the MEX-1GP's internal memory as you would with an external disc drive. And don't worry if you already have a library of digital music on recordable discs this CD player can handle those, too. Once your tunes are loaded into the stereo, the built-in amplifier will make sure they sound their best, with plenty of power to drive the speakers in your car. Sony's EQ3 sound shaping offers seven preset tone curves and three tone controls for custom tuning, while the Dynamic Soundstage Organizer feature improves the dull sound of poorly-placed car speakers by "lifting" the soundstage up to ear level. Two sets of preamp outputs are on hand for all your external amps and subs. You can switch the rear ouputs to subwoofer mode and control the frequency and level of your bass system from the stereo. Use the Aux Lite input to connect a portable music player or other external source. You won't even need to buy an extra adapter, just plug directly into the stereo's RCA inputs. Controls for an optional Sony CD changer and satellite radio round out the entertainment offerings. The fold-down, detachable faceplate with its striking design and high-contrast LCD display will look great in your dash. Use the wireless remote to control the MEX-1GP shuffling and repeating tracks, albums, and personal playlists from anywhere in the car.

5 of 5 Great Digital Player! Monday, May 05, 2008
    Mazen from Detroit MI.

The internal memory is a feature which no other manufacturer supports (none that i have found yet) and the included USB cable makes adding/removing songs easy as can be. No special software required for windows to recognize. The display is very nice, especially at night. you can select variable levels of brightness for the display. It may be a bit difficult to read during sunny days but not if you max it out. The built in pre-amp can power just about any speaker setup. You'll need to by an amp for your subs. The EQ is great as well. You can select from 5 or 6 different pre-sets, XPLODE being the best as it brings out all levels of dynamic range to the fullest. There is also a custom EQ setting. I like DSO option. It has 3 levels of power. This basically boosts the mids and highs, really good for metal and rock music. The Giga panel (internal memory) is great but the only problem is that if you're listening to a song on it and you want to browse your other artists or tracks, the player automatically changes to what your viewing. So no browsing your artists while listening to a song in the Giga panel. The display is pretty good as you can display the time, artist, album or song with the push of a button. The only thing I didn't care for was the scroll option: it will only scroll the artist/album/song 1 time before it stops. No continuous scrolling. Another sweet feature on this is the option to change change your amps power at any time. This is very useful, especially for some like myself who listens to many genres of music. No more having to mess with your amps gain control! I haven't used the aux input or satellite radio so i cant comment on them. The CD player seems to push out more power and delivers far more clarity than the Giga panel. But that is probably normal as CD's deliver more data than say a 192 KBS MP3. The display is somewhat tricky to remove compared to other Sony players.but I'm sure with time it will be like second nature. This player is probably the best bang for your buck unit out there. It's still selling for $299 at retail brick and mortar stores!
