I have a Thinkpad X61 without CD/DVD driver. It's very convenient to use this USB DVD driver to reinstall OS. Was this review helpful?

This is a great product. I've made a dozen writes and every one was 100%.
Buy.com delivered it as promised.
I would recommend this device to anyone.

The pictures of this drive don't do it justice. It is the best-looking piece of hardware I've ever owned, and that covers a lot of ground. The drive door has a mirror finish, the case is a handsome silver, and the clear lucite base is a nice touch. This is not something you will want to hide on a shelf under your desk.
Setup was easy. I just connected the power and USB cables, and Vista did the rest. (You could use the driver on the included disc). Burning DVD's is a snap. I skipped the Nero software that it ships with and used my CyberLink Power2Go. A 3GB burn consisting of hundreds of files took 6 minutes. A 1.2GB burn of 3 files took 3 minutes. This is fast to me, but my comparison drive is an HP dvd740, which is 4x, I think. I used Verbatim 16x media. 20x media is available, which I'll use once my stack of 16x's is gone.
I rated this drive a '4' for ease of use, because it's a little clumsy to insert/remove media with the drive in the vertically-oriented base. You could lay it flat and not have this issue, but it wouldn't look nearly as cool. Was this review helpful?
