2 of 5 Poor color accuracy and washed out detail Sunday, January 13, 2008 J Anderson from Alpharetta, Georgia
I had this television in my house for barely 24 hours before concluding it was a poor set and returning it. Out of the box, images had a noticeable red/pink dominance and I was unable to calibrate the set to resolve this, not without discoloring other things. I spent over four hours total struggling to calibrate this set, which is unfortunate-- Sony should do a better job of calibrating their sets before they send them out the door. Also, in all resolutions (even 1080p) people's faces and other textures looked washed out. Adjusting sharpness, picture, and the edge and detail enhancement features only improved on this slightly. This suggests poor contrast, despite the supposed 10000:1 dynamic ratio for this set. The set has a nice appearance, the remote control and on-screen menus are intuitive, and the sound of the set is good if not above average. I also liked the generous number of HDMI inputs. But ultimately you're paying two grand for the picture, and this television simply disappoints. After looking more closely at other Sony sets in a local showroom I realized that this is actually a feature of most of their non-XBR Bravia televisions. How unfortunate, because it just cost them a customer. Was this review helpful?
