| | | Features: DVD, French, Subtitled, Trailers, Commentary, Director's Cut Galactic wars of the near-future are fought by soldiers trained to be merciless, obedient warriors. But times change. New bio-engineered combatants make veterans like Sgt. Todd (Kurt Russell) obsolete. But don't expect to toss Todd on the scrap heap without a fight. Fans of sci-fi action get their viewing orders with Soldier, a hotwired-to-tomorrow adventure written by David Webb Peoples and directed by Paul Anderson. Spectacular in scale, Soldier backs its searing action with a startling vision in which mammoth "crawler" vehicles roam, planetary outcasts survive amid the jetsam of Earth's past and technology is almost beyond human control. It's a vision that's more than an eerie future. It's a total combat zone. "Rambo, Death Wish, and Dirty Harry in outer space" Jay Carr, The Boston Globe "Action is everything in this sinewy, visually impressive sci-fi military adventure..." Peter Stack, San Francisco Chronicle "Kurt Russell is a one-man intergalactic army." Bill Bregoli, Westwood One
 Editor's Note
Russell is a futuristic killing machine who becomes the target of a newer, even more vicious breed of killers. After a brutal confrontation, they leave him for dead on a semi-deserted planet. Once there, he begins to learn about the kinder, gentler aspects of life, until the soldiers return to put an end to him once and for all.

Kurt Russell is awesome! He is able to carry the movie mainly by his facial expressions. Anyone that can do that is amazing! Triton has obviously missed the greatness that has been created here with SOLDIER. Soldier is a must see and a must own! Was this review helpful?

Do NOT waste your time with this movie. Get "The Thing" or "Escape from New York" instead. Was this review helpful?

While the action sequences and special effects are above par, the story of Todd's 're-humanization' make this film stand out from others of the genre. A must see. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Rambo goes to space Sunday, June 13, 1999 A Viewer from Norfolk, VA
One explosive adventure that leads to the ultimate clash of the titans. If your into kick-butt, special forces, action adventure movies then this is a must see. This is Rambo goes to space to take on an army of gentically enhanced superhuman soldiers. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 kurt russell Friday, May 21, 1999 markfx from ct
ever since i saw the Thing i have followed kurt's career. i will watch this movie more than once. action and fx are 1st rate, tho i thought the acting was a little dry, but, consider what kind of atmosphere the actors were dealing with. (joke or not?) direction lacks humor and or seriousness. certainly not kurt's acting climax -! but, this movie is easly worth the price! Was this review helpful?
