SMC - SMCWBR14S-N2 Draft 11n Wireless Broadband Router
1 x 10/100Base-TX WAN, 4 x 10/100Base-TX LAN

Connection was simple. It outperforms my old D-link G+ by far. NO dropped connections VS Many with the D-link. At the exact same location (distance from the router) I am now seeing 5 reception strength bars VS 2 from the D-link. One item though: The installation was hampered by MY MISTAKE. I should have simply rebooted my cable modem and router after setting it up when it would not connect. SMC tech services suggested I do so and it immediately began to work flawlessly. (this step---reboot--- IS NOT contained in the instructions) I should have figured it out without calling SMC) Fnally, the D-link began to act up when I was connected to a laptop that uses a VISTA operating system. I checked the Microsoft list of certified Vista approved routers before buying this one! A GOOD MOVE! It is SUPER! BUY IT!!! Joe

Works great, FAST and with much more range (50% at least) than my old Dlink G+ wireless router. Walking around with my laptop. I have no problem connecting at about 80 feet(through walls). Additionally, when using the D-Link I had 2 signal strength bars showing at 40 feet from the router. I now have 5 bars ----full strength ----- One additional point. I am not a novice but I MADE a NEW-GUY MISTAKE when hooking it up. I could not get my Suddenlink IPS to allow me to connect to the internet. When checking at the "status page" the addresses under the Internet tab were all zeros.(after cloning the MAC address) I called SMC support and within minutes I was asked to unplug both the modem and router for 10 seconds and reconnect! Problem solved! (Note: this hint is NOT covered in the Quick Start Set up proceedures) Good luck, so far VERY GOOD here, Joe

This is my third SMC router. As protocols advance, I have bought more recent products. This product set up beautifully. I use both wireless (WEP) and wired router functions. I have a private web server on port 8080 and ftp on port 21. Works great. I also have it set up with a dynamic IP address. My disappointment is Access Control/ URL Blocking. Unlike earlier models and unlike the documentation, any text in the URL Blocking boxes is blocked for the entire network, not just my son's machine. Tech support on the phone is no longer like it was 5 years ago. They could not understand me and had me try real stupid things. I wrote an e-mail and have yet to hear back.
