5 of 5 SMC wireless router w/print server Wednesday, March 01, 2006 Hank from Amityville, NY
The wireless router was easy to set up with the exception of the print server. I found that you cannot re-use a printer port and just reconfigure it. You need to create a bogus IP printer port, delete your old port IP, then configure the one you just deleted. Once I got it working, I could print from any PC...even one that was on a VPN configuration. I use a Canon S-750 printer. Only problem is that it doesn't report back status of the printer.. only that it printed. The router comes with so many choices for security and even includes a copy of Zone Alarm on the CD. Great product, Great price! Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Bought It, Configured It Manually, and I still lik Thursday, March 31, 2005 A Customer from Brooklyn, NY
I bought mine and the install discs were missing so I updated the firmware and configured the routing manually. It works great. The signal is strong and the print server was a snap to set up. I did have a small problem logging into the router remotely, but that's been my biggest complaint thus far. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Awesome Router Tuesday, January 25, 2005 A Customer from Madison Heights, MI
This router rocks!
It has an easy to understand setup. Encryption, MAC address filtering, WEP with 64 or 128 works great (with appropriate card on the client end) works great. Was receiving excellent signals throughout my house.
I also didn't need to update any firmware. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 GREAT SMC ROUTER Wednesday, January 12, 2005 Paul from NY
This is a good router. The only thing that took long installing was the usb printer server. Some firmware's don't work and you have to try all of them. There is a theme of not being able or taking too long instally hp printers. For some reason my hp didn't work with this printer server until i downloaded a very old firmware for this router. Overall the router is good but there are a few glitches in the usb printer server. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Router Monday, December 27, 2004 Mike from West Melbourne FL
This is a great router. I never have a problem with the wireless connection. I get a strong signal all over the house and I'm not using the high power option. It has great security features and print server was extremely easy to set up, as long as you follow the instructions. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Decent wireless router, print server is tricky to Sunday, October 24, 2004 A Customer from Detroit, MI
This is a decent wireless router overall, however the print server was extremely difficult to get working for my HP Deskjet 952c. I finally got the print server to work with the latest version of the router firmware in combination with the HP Deskjet 950 series drivers.
Other than the print server issues, the router has a great amount of configuration options. Unfortunately the printed mauals are not very helpful. Was this review helpful?

This router with bulit in print server works very well. I've used a D-link, and Netgear router and this router keeps up with the best of them.
I was having problems with some connections, my own mistake, and the 24 hour customer service was excellent.
1.Very Easy to set up
2.Very Esay to use
3.Small so it can be put anywhere
4.With 54 mbps, it's very fast

1 of 5 Recommend not to get this Friday, October 01, 2004 q2b25 from Silver spring, MD
First, this router is in Version 1 so maybe some major improvement will come. But for now, it is not good from my point of view. I have used about 5 routers in the pass, and non of them reboot automatically for any reason. The firewall only suppose to block out unwanted traffic, but for this router when the firewall is trigger it will reboot and continue to aloud the firewall to get trigger again and again so the reboot continue. You can turn off the firewall but that is just 'stupid'. For now, SMC tech support can not help with this problem. At first I thought I might get a defect, but waited about 1 month for buy.com to send me the replacement and the same happen. Never have I expect such a horrible defect in a product. O, and this is the first time I give SMC a try so I don't know how they really do with everything else. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Inexpensive wireless G router + USB print server Tuesday, September 28, 2004 A Customer from FL
For the price, you can get just a print server, but here you get both wireless g router + usb print server.
You need to update with the latest firmware in order to get this puppy going with no problems. It works pretty good. There are some additional configuration parameters in order to get my VoIP device working while SPI and firewall are enabled in the router.
The USB print server is an awesome feature. It just requires some advanced TCP/IP printer port configuration on each machine. Everything is printed on the manuals.
The router menu requires a better user interface; other than that, works very good. Was this review helpful?

Bought it thinking "what a great deal from a reputable manufacturer". Built in USB server realy sold me. BUT!
Installed it and downloaded firmware. Instructions said to wait for fifteen mins for firmware to complete installation. I waited for an hour and the only light that remained on was the power light. I called tech support and they told me (in a very incomprehensible INDIAN english dialect), how to reset it. It didn't work! Twice we went through the routine and nada. So the "technician" at the other end of the phone told me it was broke and to send it back to the place of purchase for a return. So I did and am awaiting a replacement, which I'll be damned if I upgrade the firmware for. I'm not a non-technical person, I support 120 workstations for my company, so it's not like I don't know what I'm doing. If upgrading the firmware "broke it", well make up your own mind. I'm going to try the product again, without the firmware upgrade, stay tuned for another evaluation on how it performs. Was this review helpful?

They have a coule of firmware but this is the first version. So there are bugs in it. The thing I really hate is when the transfer get over 26kB/s the router restart itself. It should NEVER restart itself like that. Might be a defect but waiting for buy.com to give me an RMA #. Was this review helpful?
