5 of 5 Not a Wireless NAS Wednesday, November 28, 2007 Yuan from Jupiter, FL
The unit sets up fairly easily within my existing wireless network. The built in storage requires a 2.5 ide drive which is relatively expensive. External USB 2.0 storage can be used but restricted as this unit only supports FAT, FAT32, and EXT formats. Disk setup utilities which can format in EXT only works with the internal 2.5 drive. External USB drives need to be formated FAT/FAT32 to permit write capabilities (but FAT limits maximum file size). This unit will display files stored on NTFS formated disks but read only. Formating in FAT is not very easy in any of the more recent Windows platform due to the NTFS file system used. This would work better if you were using Linux since EXT is more common.
All in all, the internal HD does work fairly well as shared network storage. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Extremely functional and flexible Tuesday, October 09, 2007 A Customer from Baltimore, MD
This little router is a Wireless Access Point, can be configured to be a Wireless Client or a combination of both WDS. Using the setup results in a working system in minutes and then you're able to log in and perform a more advanced setup if you wish.
I was amazed at how the designers had incorporated many of the features found in other opensource firmware. It had a slot for an internal 2.5 IDE drive and 2 external USB ports for other additional storage.
I think the target market really was a travelling Sales or Sales Engineer or maybe someone who travels a lot and needs to reconfigure or extend a network into many configurations. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good Purchase Wednesday, September 26, 2007 A Customer from Germantown, MD
I got this a week ago. I am very satisfied with it's performance so far. Here is my initial feedback, pros
1. Can hold a 2.5 ATA HDD internally. I have added a 120GB Seagate Momentus disk and is blazing fast (both read & write)
2. Two USB ports for external disk.
3. Can act as an Access Point, WDS (Wireless Distribution System) or in Hybrid mode (AP & WDS). You can also disable Wireless features and just connect it as a network storage device over ethernet. I love all these features packed into such a small device.
4. FTP & SAMBA file sharing and access. I have tried both and it works great. I am forwarding all incoming FTP traffic from my router to this device and now I can access the internal HDD & the USB drives from anywhere in the world!!
Cons
1. Poor manual. If your not a techie, it will be very difficult to follow.
2. USB ports are very close to each other. I am not able to connect two thumb drives without an extension cable.
3. Heat. It gets hot.
4. I am worried about the warranty and support. But at 24 I think I am asking for too much :)
5. SFTP and a HTTP server would have been nice. :) Was this review helpful?
