| | | The Barricade Broadband Router (SMC7008ABR) is an ideal networking solution for both the home and business user. This platform independent multi-function router combines an 8-port 10/100 Mbps dual speed switch, NAT-based router, print server, and network management system into one convenient device. The Barricade supports various network protocols, such as TCP/IP and NetBeui, while also providing support for VPN connections with PPTP and IPSec pass through. The Barricade Broadband Router (SMC7008ABR) has a 10Mbps WAN port for high-speed integration into your network. To connect devices on your network, the Barricade supports Network Address Translation (NAT) to provide simultaneous Internet connections for up to 253 PC's and all of these connections can be made using a single purchased IP address. To manage this network, the Barricade NAT router has a built-in DHCP server to auto-assign IP addresses to all the devices on your network. By using the built-in web-based interface, you can configure this router to handle IP routing and port forwarding through the Virtual Server option. For added management and security, this router also has a full-featured Access Control option. This integrated feature allows you to filter traffic through your network based on scheduled time, IP address, or MAC address while also logging DHCP and hacker attempt information.

3 of 3 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Almost effortless installation Monday, January 05, 2004 phil.ambrose from Coral Springs, FL
Even though I've developed software for telecom companies for nearly twenty years, I'm no expert when it comes to LAN installations. This was almost an effortless installation, once I wired up the house (which was not quite effortless). One thing they don't mention in the "3-click EZ installation" is how to install the router if you already had an existing Cable / DSL connection up and running. For this, I had to use the browser interface to the router and make a phone call to a friend of mine who does know more about LAN installations. Because my Westell DSL modem had "learned" the MAC address of my PC's NIC, I had to tell the router to clone the address. Just remember to write down the original MAC address of the router. It should be on the product label, but just in case. After that, we were off and running. The Print Server installation was effortless, and from the quick test I did at each of the three PCs in my house, working fine. Was this review helpful?
