I t was fun for a short while. The screen went bad in less then 6 months. Can't use this anymore. The screen lights up but you can't see any words.

Seem's like a lot of money but this has real potential. Don't get too close to the recorder and it works fine. Kinda nice to walk pass and stop to add to the list. Then printing seperates things into catagories for you. I like this.Same old story though you have to remeber to take the list to the store!!

Works better than imagined. I would encourage all to read the user guide to see how items in the pre-programmed library are stored and its a simple process from there. It is easy to enhance the voice recognition for the tricky items like "salmon" and if all your favorite items aren't in the library, it's a snap to program anything you need. Another big convenience for our family is 80% of the time our grocery list is the same week to week. So there is no need to make a new grocery lists from scratch, if you don't delete your list all you have to do is print and go. But for us, I'd have to say the #1 feature is the fact that the Smart Shopper automatically prints your list by category so all "like items" are printed together regardless of how you build your list. No more bouncing back and forth all over the grocery store because you forgot cheese in the dairy section & your now clear across the store in the produce section. Love it!

This is a great gadget. I saw this on a tv show but did not purchase because it was so expensive. I was very excited to get it here at a great price. I love the list function and it responds to most words right out the box. I only had to look up two so far. My husband even likes this.

Purchased a little over a week ago and my wife loves it. Tried it out minutes after hitting our door. Works as advertised. I would probably purchase a higher model to get a few more features, but for the price you could not beat it. Great value for the money. Plus no more searching for a pen or pencil to add to the paper list on the refrigerator, that would almost always fall on the floor once a day. Highly recommend if you are a person on the go and don't have time to write a list.

While it did take a short while to "learn" my voice it now recognizes almost everything I want to add to the list. Sometimes you need to read the product list to know what the gadget has in memory for an item. Example french fries, you need to say "frozen french fries" while this may be at times confusing there is the option to edit items already in the memory and add not only items but errands as well. Those who had trouble with this may have not been patient enough or maybe just plain dumb. It is great to be able to add to you shopping list as you run out of things then on shopping day hit print and off you go. Great little gadget, great price I'd but it again if I had to do it over.

No longer do my wife & I rack our brains to come up with a list just before shopping! We simply add items as they are depleted or thought of. Plus once in the store, I am no longer zig-zagging back to grab items from my unsorted hand-written list (also, am I the only person who sometimes can't make out my own writing?!). My wife was skeptical when I told her about this purchase ... she has been won over! Very pleased!

This gadget works great! It takes a little bit of time and effort to enter in items that aren't on the list, but the list is extensive so you don't typically have to add many. (And once you've added them in, they're there to stay!) If you speak slowly and clearly, it easily picks up what you are saying. If it doesn't, it's easy to go back and try again. The best feature is how it organizes the items on your list into the correct category to make shopping more efficient. I would highly recommend getting a SmartShopper if it looks like something that you would use.

While I always relied on my mind to remember things, I find that as I age, I cannot do that anymore. Grocery lists were in my head. I don't feel too bad, though, since I notice much younger people relying on their handwritten lists. With the grocery list organizer, I have it magnetically mounted on the refrigerator, and as I am cooking or otherwise working in the kitchen, it is so simple to make and add to a grocery list which goes with me to the store, is easy to read (my handwriting is horrible), and is complete since all items on the list are placed there immediately as I think of them while at home planning recipes. For me it's an expensive but necessary gadget.

How often have you retured from the market and discovered that you didn't purchase something that you intended to put on the market list? It happened to me quite often, before I purchased the Smart Shopper. The Smart Shopper has a very strong magnet on the back so it can stick like glue to my refrigerator door, where it is handy. When I run low on something, I walk over to the Smart Shopper, press the record button, and say what I need ... and the item is put on the list. The Smart Shopper recognizes everything that I say (with the exception that I had to teach it to recognize that I pronounce butter as "budder".) I found that it is simple to teach the Smart Shopper to recognize what I say. The items available stored its memory are extensive, but if the item is not there, it takes about a minute to add the item to its lexicon. After added to it's lexicon, you add the item just as you would anything else. When it's time to go to the market, I press the print button, and the list comes out, sorted by market department. Shopping is easy and quick and the lack of return trips for forgotten items will probably pay for the Smart Shopper over time.

When you start running out of gifts to buy, this might be the thing to get. It's expensive but I guess you have to pay for the non essentials in life. I don't know why everyone is complaining about the speach recongnition. My wife and I had no problem with it. It recognized almost everything that was in the data bank. We were fooling around with it and started thinking of grocery items to input and we were amazed as to just how many were in there. There's a thermal printer so you don't need to purchase ink, just the special paper. My wife really enjoys it. I would recommend this for the person who you have run out of ideas for...only because its kind of expensive for just what you get out of it. Basically it gets rid of a pad and pen to jot down grocery items as you think of them.

The Smartshoppers saves me a great deal of time. It is very easy to use and my whole family and friends love to add items to our shopping list. The best part is when you print out your list and head to the grocery, your list is in the order in which you would flow through the market. Dairy is together, canned goods, together, paper goods, etc. No more running from isle to isle and back tracking for items you forgot. For me, that is tremendous. I like to get in and get out. It also helps you limit your impulse shopping to only those things you really need since you are focusing on your list. I just bought two more for a friend and my daughter. I love it.

This is truly a lousy product. Its voice recognition is non-existent - practically every word is not recognized or not in the library. Even after entering a new item and teaching it how to pronounce the name, this thing still can't find it or finds a dozen items that it says fit the pronunciation. I would return this piece of junk, except that the time limit has expired - 14 days from the time it ships from the warehouse.

My husband is a tech guy, always looking for something to make my life easier. This item was going to do that. NOT! I spoke clearly, yet it did not understand me. You would have to program 8 out of 10 words into the machine. I could be to the store and back, by the time I figured that all out. Not only was it a bust, but it seems that now I can not even return it(2 wk returns with buy.com)

I apologize for my previous review. I called customer support (which I should have done first) and learned how to reset the unit to factory settings. Now it works (almost) perfectly.

It seemed to work at first, but then went completely bonkers. Suggested items were completely off the wall. It can be trained laboriously, but having to train each item you want is a real pain. Maybe it just doesn't like a south Texas accent. We thought of giving it to family members for Christmas gifts, but we love them too much.

When I first saw this item I said "I've got to get this for my wife!" She, like most others, scribble down a list for shopping and errands. I, being a gadgets fanatic and an organizational nut, thought what a great idea. My wife is somewhat the opposite of me in those respects, so selling her on this gadget was not too easy at first. After teaching her how to use it, she loves it! It does save her time at the grocery store because of the way it catagorizes the items. She also loves that you can add errands to the list as well. It is very simple to learn and use and overall a very well thought out electronic gadget. Also, I got a great deal thru Buy.com to boot!

This product has been great. Its easy to use and always surprises me to see how extensive the library is. I've added my own products and tasks easily and now whenever I feel the urge to do shopping i walk around the house and create my list by just talking to it. No more hunting for the little notes I left around the house to buy or do something and no more coming home and saying "shoot I forgot ____" Sometimes for one time buys its not useful to add it to the library so I just add the one time item by hand to the bottom of the list manually while the paper is still in the smartshopper and when it ends up printing out I still have everything I need in one spot. It even categorizes things for you so when you go to the store when you're in the say "paper section" you can pickup everything at one time Sometimes it's a little stubborn to recognize letters in the library management function but its easily remedied with a few key strokes I love it an many of my friends have who have purchased one after seeing mine. Buy.com has the best price too

Couldn't believe it worked as advertised. Recognizes the whole family, even with a southern accent. Makes it actually fun to do grocery lists including by my husband who is seriously challenged when it comes to technology!

This is an awesome piece. I can't believe I used to shop with out it. The SmartShopper will recognize just about everything you will need from the store, it also recognized my kids voices. This is a super easy unit to operate, it prints everything in categories, e.g. dairy, meats, cereal, errands to run and many others. EVERY HOUSE NEEDS ONE!!!
