4 of 5 Worked very well Sunday, September 07, 2008
A Customer from Ripon, WI

Was extremely easy to set up and works very well. I use this throughout our campus using a flash drive with the program on it and it works great. The changing of channel is quite slow (2-3 seconds) and the quality of the darks could be a little bit better. Also only allows one person to use it at a time which isn't a major problem.

5 of 5 Best buy Thursday, September 04, 2008
A Customer from Montville, NJ
Slingbox Pro is the best unit for the travelers and for those who has multiple TVs utilized in their homes with the PCs. You can watch your recordings on a single DVR in HD quality and manage your cable / satelite box from any room where you have a computer (either connected to a big TV screen or not). It is also convenient for the travelers to have a Pro version, not Solo, as depending on the bandwidth you will or will not be able to watch via HD or RCA connection. In this case I use the first port that is connected directly to the cable, without the cable box. All of these switches between the ports are done remotely, when you are connected to the local internet using your laptop. I am really happy I spent the money for this purchase.

5 of 5 Slingbox Pro Thursday, August 21, 2008
A Customer from Chattanooga, TN
The only headache I had with it was getting it hooked up. The instructions didn't include how to hook it up with a stereo receiver involved so was a bit on my own. I ended up buying the Sling Media HD connection which would've made things so much simpler if I had had it the first time. Once I got everything connected correctly, I've really enjoyed having it!

3 of 5 SlingBox Pro Wednesday, August 13, 2008
A Customer from athens, ga
I had it setup for use at home in minutes. It works great with my wireless network. However, I have been working for days to ge the remote access to work and still dont have it functional. It's not as easy as they lead you to believe. I still like it and am certain will get it figured out. I'll bump my satisfaction up one level when that happens.

5 of 5 Works as Advertised but with Catch Tuesday, August 05, 2008
A Customer from Fort Worth, TX
I moved to Texas from Los Angeles and didn't want to buy a new TV quite yet. So i decided to get a slingbox pro- which does HD. It works great, set up is easy etc. But...it's a bit overkill since resolution is bandwidth dependent and you do have to purchase a separate HD adapter for component connections. I have several HD channels I really like so I went with the pro model. If you don't have multiple devices, the slingbox solo is much cheaper and does the same thing - something I didn't discover until after I purchased this.

A Customer from New York, NY
The Slingbox Pro is a "must have" if you appreciate entertainment on the go or for live updated information. It is easy to set up and very easy to use. It works great on Windows XP and Windows Vista. This is the future of TV.

5 of 5 Awesome, works good. Friday, June 20, 2008
monsruzo from Indianapolis, IN
It sends the data to my cell phone without choppy video or audio in the city where ATT has a faster network, but up north in a small town the ATT network is slower and the audio and video is choppy. The HDMI cord is proprietary and is Slingbox brand, it accepts any component video and plugs into the Slingbox pro via HDMI connection. It was easy to configure to send the audio and video to my cell phone. Works to control a ton of cable receivers, mine is a Motorola unit from ATT's Uverse digital cable and it works perfect, just like I am at home controlling it.

5 of 5 Works well with Verizon FIOS Wednesday, May 07, 2008
Lewis Edge from Princeton, NJ USA
Having owned one of the original Singbox units, I bought and installed this Slingbox Pro for a friend. He has Verizon FIOS. Knowing from experience that a good TCP/IP connection to the router is essential for best performance, I made a direct connection to the Slingbox Pro via CAT-5 cabling. Our only installation hitch was that the Slingbox Pro's configuration overrode my manual assignment of a fixed IP address and chose a DHCP assigned address instead. Connecting the Slingbox Pro to my friend's digital box was a snap. The Slingbox infrared "eyes" give my friend complete remote control of his digital box, just as if he were in front of it, including the ability to control his DVR. When he is using his his local Wi-Fi G connection, the video on his 17" notebook computer screen is every bit as sharp and clear as it is when he is playing a DVD on his computer. Needless to say, my friend and I are both pleased with the results.

3 of 5 Sling Box Pro Thursday, April 24, 2008
jjannis from Winthrop, ma
Pros: - Allows viewing home cable/sat service at your "home away from home" without paying a 2nd bill. Easily pays for itself in 1 mlb, nba, or nfl season, so long as you buy at discount. - Supports a 2nd video input, such as DVR or a VCR - Direct TV remote control (rc) support is flawless. Caveats: - Video quality at your remote pc depends on bandwidth. Faster is better. - No remote streaming for HD yet. - a 3rd input supports cable/ant RF but SlingPro doesn't include a tuner for this input. Cons: - Sling's generic DVR rc for my Toshiba RD-XS32 omits all but the most basic functions, making the unit very awkward to use. - this is my 2nd Sling Pro. the 1st one fried w/in 6 mo's. It was so tedious trying to convince Sling's help desk that my unit was fried that, not seeing any better products in the market place, I just purchased another sling. Am hoping for better reliability with this unit. - from my experience, rc support & help desk support are hit or miss, depending on your needs.

1 of 5 Poor Instructions Does not work with Mac OSX Wednesday, March 19, 2008
tony from Orlando, FL
I was excited when I got this, physical setup is easy BUT setting up on a MAC OSX network required a lot of configuration changes not only on the router but also on the DSL modem (which they don't mention in the instructions!!). The remote control works when you connect locally but when you connect over Internet it does not show. Tech support has no fix for this. Box was replaced but still the same problem!! Works OK on XP.

4 of 5 Good Device, some problems Saturday, March 15, 2008
Jay Fro from Omaha, NE
The setup and design of the slingbox is incredible. The wizard walk through will allow a non-techie to setup easily (assuming you have it close to your router AND TV components). The stream is AWESOME... crystal clear on my local network with a wireless laptop (about 3000kb). On a Sprint HTC Touch phone, the quality is excellent as well. On a laptop connected over the Internet, the quality is marginal at best. I have a 1MB upload cable connection and when remotely connected I can get up to 900kb stream which is great quality. However, quite often, the system will buffer and drop the stream to as low as 100kb, making the video and audio studder. According to various websites, this is a common problem with the latest firmware, so I suggest not allowing it to install the latest firmware until the resolve it. I also struggled with heat problems. If this unit is sitting on top of a DVR or AV Receiver that puts off heat, it will constantly drop the network connection and stop responding (requireing a reboot of the slingbox). Moving to a cooler location solves the problem.

4 of 5 Could be a costly setup but works great Monday, March 10, 2008
A Customer from Miami, FL
I travel a lot and miss watching my shows while I'm out of the US. A friend of mine told me about Slingbox so I decided to check it out. Buy.com had a really good deal on this usually expensive product. I've researched this product on their site and buy.com's site. Every single site fails to mention that unless you have your internet connection close to the product you will need an additional Sling product at the cost of about $130 dollars AND you need a router in addition to your internet modem. Bottom line is if you don't have the setup watching TV could cost you near $400 - At that price it's definitely something to think twice about. I did not know this when I purchased because all sites fail to mention that you need to hard wire this product. Once you get past the technicalities though it is an amazing experience and if you travel a lot or need your local stations while away from home it's very exciting to have.

5 of 5 An excellent product! Wednesday, March 05, 2008
A Customer from Burbank, CA
This product rocks. Live TV on the go is simply awesome. Setup was very easy and the picture quality is nice and smooth on my laptop. I have a 386kb upstream at home so my connection gives the Slingbox plenty of bandwidth. The picture quality on my cell phone (HTC Mogul) is sort of choppy but this is because of a video driver problem with my phone and has nothing to do with the Slingbox. My friend has his Slingbox running on his Treo and the picture is as good as mine is on my Laptop.

5 of 5 Great device, simple install Wednesday, March 05, 2008
pawsrb from Lehigh Acres, Fl
It was very easy to connect and to install software. Watch out for the programming, the software will attempt to configure your router if it does not it will have to be done manually. I would strongly suggest going to www.portforwarding.com vs slingbox support. Select the device and your router and simply follow the directions.

5 of 5 Good way of watching TV Saturday, December 08, 2007
Jeff from Detroit, MI.
Not too bad of a product. Could be better though. Would be better if it was connected via USB. Goods: Easy to setup Decent performance, decent picture. Bad: Only 1 person can connect to it at any given time Slow channel changes Works poorly with wireless. Needs connection to Ethernet. A little pricey. Doesn't include the HDMI interface. Need to buy separately.

5 of 5 Pretty amazing quality on good networks Friday, December 07, 2007
Electronics Frog from Fairfax, VA
No question it streams very well wired (to Sling) and wireless G on my (P4M 1.8G) laptop. No jitter or hickups during normal playback; a little too much during remote cntl functions. Does almost as well at the office (good 1 to 2Mbps stream) Overal excellent for performance. I did not do a sidexside with any other device. Other products out there. Price finally hit an acceptable range but HD cable is a painful extra. Drawbacks - - it does not have record function in the player (once did?). - it does not allow more than one connection, does not allow a broadcast. - extra cost to get HD (extra cable is required for component hookup), needs a built-in HDMI passthru instead

5 of 5 Very cool device Friday, December 07, 2007
WC Fields from California
Pro: Pretty good streaming video Con: Quality of video depends on many factors This is a very cool device. I use it to watch TV when I'm traveling. As well, I also use it to watch TV at home on my laptop (in a different room from my TV) via my home wireless connection. The video quality at home is excellent (of course it functions at network speeds) when it can stream at about 3 Mbps. When on the road the quality depends on the local download speed. I can sometimes hit 600 Kbps which is pretty good for watching sports. Anything less that 300Kbps and the video will be pretty jerky. I even have loaded the version of the player on my Treo 700p. The quality here is surprisingly good, but of course the screen is small. The Treo version is useful for setting my TiVo in case I forgot to do so before leaving the house.

5 of 5 Fantastic! Friday, December 07, 2007
T1bubba from Baltimore, MD
I had the Slingbox Pro up and running in about half an hour. It's the easiest tech device to set up since the tivo. I bought the Pro simply because I wanted the pass-through outputs so I wouldn't have to split my cables. One thing to note, if you are not buying the HD adapter you can only control one device (plus use the SB's own cable tuner) as it only comes with one IR cable. Once I installed the software it found the slingbox and set up the router automatically. I haven't used it to watch TV on my laptop while out of town much, but the picture on my Treo 750 is fantastic. It usually shows 15 FPS on the Sprint network with only an occasional stutter. On the laptop the viewing window is somewhat small, but my DSL upload speed is only 700kbs so hopefully that will improve if Verizon ever installs FIOS here. Controlling my tivo is a snap, you just click on the buttons on the onscreen copy of the tivo remote. There is a delay as the commands are relayed to the tivo, it gets annoying when you are trying to scroll through large lists but is bearable. Overall I'm extremely satisfied with this product.

5 of 5 Easy Setup - Easy to Use - Recommend! Wednesday, November 28, 2007
Lance Reisen from Oregon, WI
The Slingbox Pro is a great idea, and a must have for anyone who does tons of traveling, and wants to be able to watch there favorite Sports team since the hotel, airport, local taco bell your staying at doesn't get the Big Ten Network, or the NFL Network. It has come in very handy for me, but wish there was a way you could record the programs using it.

4 of 5 Almost great... Tuesday, September 11, 2007
A Customer from Milwaukee, WI
The Slingbox concept is great and setup is pretty easy for the most part, except for remote internet viewing. Can't seem to get that part to work, even with help from customer service. Unfortunately, you can't tell if it works until you leave your home network. I'll call again and see if they can help...

5 of 5 Satisfaction for a TV Addict Thursday, August 23, 2007
Victor from Valley Stream, NY
Growing up with a black and white TV, I never imagined that a device capable of allowing me to view and control my home cable box anywhere in the world like the Slingbox Pro could ever exist. At first look, I was skeptical. But I was intrigued by the idea and only wondered about the picture and sound quality. Given what it is, I am amazed and thrilled that 1) it works at all, 2) the picture and sound are quite acceptable, 3) the ease of installation, 4) the re-vamped website and convenient online support, and 5) the value for the cost. Overall, a worthwhile purchase for anyone who loves TV as I do.

4 of 5 Know what your upstream speed before buying Thursday, August 16, 2007
Mike from Irvine, CA
The only reason why people buy this is to enjoy their TV away from home, usually that is from a laptop or desk PC and not on a phone. If it is only on a phone this is 5 out of 5 because your phone screen is so small everything looks good, but on a PC with bigger monitor you will need to know how to achieve higher picture quality. Picture quality depends on your weakest link in the whole setup, the weakest link for most people is upstream speed of your home network. Before buying find out what your upstream speed is, if you are too lazy to find out here is some generic numbers for you. Cable and DSL speed: If your download speed is below 3mbps then your upstream speed is probably 256kbps. If your download speed is between 3mbps~5mbps then your upstream speed is most likely 512kbps. If your download speed is above 5mbps it is possible your upstream speed is 1~2mbps. FIOS speeds: basic setup have 1mbps upstream, higher end service gets 3mbps. 3mbps is about the same speed as your cable box speed is, so if you have 3+mbps upstream and the network you are connected to away from home is 3mbps download speed then you have the ideal setup. Picture quality does go down a bit when you drop down to 2mbps, but I would still say its pretty good. You may have some occasional what I call seeing through a screen door effect, but that is to be expected. If you have 1mbps your picture quality will go down a bit more, still is not too bad you can see everything fairly clearly but try not to change to full screen. If you have 512mbps the picture quality is pretty bad, its like watching TV through a screen door. Now if you have 256kbps I would not recommend you get this unit, you will not like the constant screen door picture even when shrunk down to smaller window. Also the the lagging of the sound during a buffering when network becomes slow...

5 of 5 Can you say Sweeeet??? Thursday, August 16, 2007
Happy Boricua from North East, MD
The SlingBox Pro HD is simply an awesome video streaming appliance plus more. The ease of installation and configuration was easy enough for my 12 year old to do (and he did after I read through the instructions and challenged him to do it). We have it hooked up to the DishNetwork VIP622 High Definition PVR and our video monitoring system. That's right, being able to see what's on satellite TV from anywhere (even my car via Verizon EVDO) is spoiling me quickly and being able to see what is going on inside and out of my house is comforting. If you're thinking about getting this and aren't sure...it's a no brainer.

5 of 5 HD Slingbox is slick!!!! Wednesday, August 15, 2007
intenseflipper from Lakewood, CO
I have/had the old Slingbox classic, it works great, but the picture was always a bit soft/grainy. Now all my shows from my Series 3 TiVo looks great!!! I don't think it's a true 1080i, but it looks damn good!!! It is what I expected, and I am very satisfied. The downside is Slingbox Media should include the HD connect cable for a couple bucks more. One would think that if you were going to purchase a Slingbox Pro HD, that you might actually use it for HD. I got a screaming deal thru Buy.com and that is why I upgraded, otherwise I would would still be using my my old one.

5 of 5 No more having to miss your favorite TV program! Sunday, August 12, 2007
A Customer from New York, NY
As long as you're able to connect to the internet, you'll never be without your TV, at the office, on the road, or even in a restaurant. Everything is easy to set up, as long as you're able to follow the directions, and once you're hooked up, video quality is great!

5 of 5 Great Product Saturday, August 11, 2007
A Customer from Colorado Springs, CO
I put off buying this product for quite awhile, because I was uncertain how well it would work. I shouldn't have waited - it was very easy to setup and works as advertised. I have a satellite receiver hooked to a Tivo Series 2 box hooked to the Slingbox Pro, and then to an 802.11g wireless router. the picture quality is great, and everything is easily controlled using the Tivo remote.

5 of 5 Slingbox Pro +++ Saturday, August 11, 2007
Satisfied... from Seattle, WA
Have owned my SB for a month. Excellent product and I can recommend it without reservations. If your computer is protected from a direct connection with the net by a router, you may be required to understand how to integrate the SB with your LAN although the SB software does try to accomplish this task automatically. The net has resources to help if you need it.

5 of 5 The most amazing product!!! Saturday, August 11, 2007
smulli1976 from Euless, TX
For all of you gadgetiers out there like me, the Slingbox is the perfect addition to the family. It was very easy to install, and did not have to call the tech line fo help once. I was so impressed with the quality on my laptop that I purchased Sling Mobile for my Palm Treo 700w. I may be called a dork at work, but deep inside I know they are filled with anger and envy!! A must buy!!

5 of 5 I love my Slingbox Pros Saturday, August 11, 2007
RB from Dallas, TX
I bought one Slingbox because I travel about 100 days per year and I am often unable to catch a show I want while on the road. Combined with my TiVo I can catch up when I get back to the hotel room, when I have some time. So, when I had to get another DVR, I got a second Slingbox Pro with the HD Connect cable. It is just awesome how well this works. I have found that it is useful while I am home, too. When my wife is trying to sleep in, I can go to the other room and watch the shows from the bedroom DVR and let her sleep. I have a Mac Powerbook at home and the software works flawlessly. I have used PC's when traveling with equally good results. All in all, if you need or just want this kind of functionality, Slingbox is great.

5 of 5 Best product in its class Friday, August 10, 2007
Kelly from Brooklyn, NY
I have been following this product for quite some time and I finally bought it when BUY.COM put it on sale for the price of the regular sling box. Setup was a breeze and was watching TV show in less than 20 minutes. The reception on wireless lan is pretty good. At first the remote access doesn't work but I got a lot of help from Sling media's web site. I have to manually configure my router. I found out that I had to configure the DSL modem, too, to allow the port to transmit the stream. This is the best gadget I bought, so far, and its really cool. I didn't go with the HD cable because I am very much satisfied with the reception on HD channels, which is much better than the standard programming. I highly recommend this product to everyone who travels a lot.

5 of 5 Slinging is fun and easy Friday, August 10, 2007
Rick from Orlando, FL
This is my third Slingbox and I'm extremely happy with the SlingBox Pro as my latest purchase. I haven't used the HD features, but I will be and even without it, the cable hookup lets me extend my TV to wherever I am VERY easily. Be sure and snatch one of these up when Buy.com puts them up for sale! You can't find new ones for less than 150.00!

4 of 5 Excellent Product. Still has bugs. Friday, August 10, 2007
Ron from Chicago, Illinois
The product works as great except for 3 issues: 1. The playback degrades significantly when you issue a command which causes the software to re-optimize the stream. 2. It takes approximately 1-3 minutes of watching the stream before it completes its optimization on start-up, during this time the playback can be at times very degraded. 3. The software support for a extremely popular Dish Network DVR 522 is terrible. I chatted with support for over an hour and they still could not get it to function properly. After 2 weeks of searching the web, I finally found a configuration that enabled me to control my DVR and all its functions. This is unacceptable. Since then, except for items 1 and 2 above, which are minor, the Slingbox pro works as advertised. I hope that Slingbox builds the fix for the DVR support into their next software release.

5 of 5 Rock my world - everyone should have one Friday, August 10, 2007
A Customer from Harrisburg, PA
This device is just absolutely slick. I an watch TV (hi def, lo def) from anywhere now - phone, other PC in the house, relatives house. The device is simple to setup, update, and configure. The client interface is very simple to use. Only downside: The Windows Mobile client is not free. They charge extra. :(

5 of 5 First the Tivo & now a Slingbox Sunday, August 05, 2007
Big A from LI,NY
This is a next generation product that you get today. I'm a DSL user thru verizon and have their lowest speed (technical issues and a bunch of other things) & even then this device is amazing. Slingbox pro is easy for the novice and superb device for the more sophisticated techies. For now the set up is easy...plug in run the wizard...configure your router and presto its good to go. I envy the IT staff guys who can get around work firewalls...this is great, for me I can't do this at work. You must get one of these devices...the freedom to watch my local tv while travelling is to say the least extremely satisfying. Limitations are not from the Slingmedia or its software but rather your bandwidth and restrictions of your ISP provider. The adaptability of the software is pretty fluid and automatic. Great home device too to be able to go outside and watch tv on my laptop locally or go to free wifi hotspots these days. Freedom to stay connected. If I didn't have a Tivo this would still be cool cutting edge, but in combo this is unbelievable. Yes you can hook up other devices too i.e. VCR, DVD Player etc or use your imagination.

5 of 5 Amazing Tuesday, July 31, 2007
Bob from Kansas City, MO
Got in on the really sweet July 4th price. Fairly easy to set up using only coax/tuner so far. Hardest part was setting up my Motorola Wireless router. Used the hints online & finally found the hidden router setting. I have a Sprint Treo 700P which wows/amazes everyone I show. Also have a Sprint EVDO USB aircard on a MacBook & MacBook Pro giving great picture and results. Also use my Slingbox Pro over wired and wireless home network flawlessly. My biggest problem is I need 2 more so everyone in the family can watch when they want!! Hope to add camera for surveilence and the cablebox when I get time.

5 of 5 Slingbox Pro Is TV for the Next Generation Monday, July 30, 2007
A Customer from Houston, TX
Installing the Slingbox Pro was a snap. Went to Starbucks, logged via a Hot Spot, and checked it out. Nothing like watching my TV with a steaming hot latte. Take your TV with you wherever you go. I have AT&T U-Verse and the setup was easy and the picture is great! It has a picture of my remote. Nothing new to learn. Just click and watch. I can even watch my recorded programs in HD.

5 of 5 AWESOME - AWESOME - AND EVEN MORE AWESOME Tuesday, July 17, 2007
Chris from Janesville Iowa
Frankly I am blown away by this device! If you have a CABLE connection you should have no problems what so ever. Setup was a breeze! The only thing you may have trouble with is opening port 5001 so you can access it anywhere. It should be under your PORT FORWARDING options in your router configuration. Then you'll need to find your PUBLIC IP ADDRESS by going to www.whatismyip.com The best part is, I own an HP - IPAQ and I purchased the SLINGPLAYER MOBILE for Pocket PC, again UNBELIEVABLE that I can now carry around my IPAQ and watch TV where ever there is an internet connection. People are EXTREMELY impressed and everyone wants one now that they've seen mine.

5 of 5 I really like Sling Box Pro Friday, July 13, 2007
albert from Geneva, IL
The Sling Box Pro works great. Set up was pretty easy, except I did have to manually set up my LAN to stream the video. I called Sling Box support to do this. My call was answered promptly and the tech walked me through the steps to get up an running. Later I found the document online that walks the user through the steps. Savvy users can skip the tech support call and use the documenation. So, I'm very happy with the customer support experience. Like other users have noted the stream quality really depends on bandwidth availability. I'm using DSL Elite from AT&T, which provides their fastest speeds, connected to a Hughes Directv receiver. Last night at 11 PM the video stream was really good even though I was sitting in the basement office while the router resides on the second floor. There have been other times during the day when the video stuttered a bit, but it was not unexpected. Prime computer time for the kiddies cuts down on the bandwidth. My primary reason for the purchase was to be able to watch baseball games and movies in my sunroom without having to lug a television to the site. Using my computer to access the Dirctv receiver via Sling Box makes it possible with great results. I am a happy camper. I'm just delighted with the Pro and can't wait to try it out when I'm on the road.

5 of 5 As Advertised!! Wednesday, June 27, 2007
A Customer from OBX, NC
Very happy with the my Slingbox Pro, installed it in ablut 30 minutes. Automatically connected with my network with a Slinglink Turbo purchased seperately. Now streaming video through my Belkin N wireless router to my laptop and over the Internet to my office. The only limitation I've noticed is related to quality of Internet connectivity at any remote location. So far, flawless performance after a flawless install. I purchased the Slngbox Pro HD dongle combo and I'm in the process of upgrading my Directv box to HD. Will report back on that under that product after I have a chance to try it out.

5 of 5 This is and amazing product Wednesday, June 27, 2007
Rick B. from Dallas, TX
I was working in the UK at the end of the TV season a few weeks ago. You can't get American TV show from the web if you have a UK IP Address, so getting to see the last shows of the series that I was following was impossible... Except I had a Slingbox Pro. It worked like a dream. And due to the time shift I would get up an watch the show from a TiVo about 1 or 2 AM when the network bandwidth was up. Great picture and sound. An amazing product that actually lives up to the hype I heard. (Mac OSX Software works great, too)

1 of 5 Will not work with Scientific Atlantic Explorer 83 Saturday, June 23, 2007
gwthor from Greensboro, NC
This product actually works fine but it will not work using the component output from a Scientific Atlantic Explorer 8300HD PVR while using the HDMI connection to connect to your TV. The SA 8300HD does output the signal through both outputs but only if you disconnect the HDMI will the slingbox receive the video signal from the component output. I have verified this with slingbox tech support and there is a known issue that you can read at: http://us.slingmedia.com/object/KB-005316.html For anyone that has the SA Explorer 8300HD and does not want to use the Slingbox HD connect to pass the signal through to their TV (wants to use the HDMI for the TV and component for the slingbox) this product is not for you.
