5 of 5 Works just as advertised .... Friday, October 10, 2008
christian_sir from Jersey City, NJ

After a while of letting it sit in the box, I finally devoted some time and set up my sling box. If your a computer geek than set up should not be a problem. I had to go to the sling box website to answer a couple setup questions. I ended up buying the wireless connection b/c my router is located near my telephone and it's not near my TV set. That product worked well also. The reason I purchased slingbox is b/c I have direct TV with the Soccer package. Now if I go on vacation or to a wireless cafe near me, all I have to do is take my laptop and connect. Now if I use my laptop at home the picture is really clear b/c my home network is fast. If I am in the cafe the picture is less clear but still good enough to make out the players and watch the game without any problem. I def. have recommended this product to my friends....

5 of 5 Great deal Wednesday, September 10, 2008
A Customer from Grand Rapids, Michigan
Works great, a must have for college students who ride the bus using the sling mobile purchased separately. The only draw back is even with a direct connection you don't get a true HD picture.

3 of 5 Should provide software and IR receiver to learn r Tuesday, August 05, 2008
A Customer from New York
Missing buttons on virtual remote makes setup of devices problematic. No easy way to add functionality to virtual remote. Perhaps Echostar should sell Sling Media to Logitech the Harmony Remote owners. Otherwise, the device itself is easy to set up. The picture scales to bandwidth.

5 of 5 Satisfied US Citizen in Australia Tuesday, June 03, 2008
Anya from Sydney, Australia/Tiverton, RI, USA
After moving to Australia, I found that I was not that impressed with the selection of channels that was available here (especially since baseball season was quickly approaching and, as they should, the sport channels here only played local sports). I decided to look into how I could bring MY TV to my new home. It all became possible with the slingbox. With the help of my mother (I needed her to order another cable box and upgrade the internet connection at their home in RI so that they had a 2GB upload speed), I have now been able to stream the information from the cable box and download it here in Sydney, Australia on my computer - which is in turn connected to my Bravia and I'm able to watch TV as usual (GO RED SOX)! (The set-up was quick & easy for us on both ends, didn't have a problem with firewalls) I'm extremely happy with how quick the stream is (altho we did have to upgrade our internet connection here in Australia as well). The picture quality is obviously better on the small computer screen versus projecting it onto a TV, but it's not so bad that you can't watch it. Very great product for any American living overseas!

5 of 5 Wow. This is a grea product. Monday, April 07, 2008
dthomas42 from Chicago, IL
This does everything that it says it will and is easy to set up. I can't think of anything I don't like about it. I have an wireless cell card from AT&T and the video quality over that is still really good in areas with their high speed network. Over my LAN it's just as good as a being at my tv for the high definition. This really does do everything it says it will.

5 of 5 great product Tuesday, March 04, 2008
A Customer from Tijeras, NM
So far, I love this product. the set up was not easy due to firewall issues but the help technician "took over" my laptop and handled all the steps needed to get it working. even at home I have a small tv picture going on my laptop while I do my work. I will love it even more when travelling the world being able to watch my satellite channels from home.

2 of 5 When it works it is great Sunday, February 17, 2008
JasJ from Houston, TX
I am now awaiting my second replacement in 6 months. First one died after a month. The second one died four months later. When it works it is great. ability to see home cable and DVD from anywhere is fantastic. Even though comcast limits my upstream to 384k, the remote software tunes to the available bandwidth and you recieve a viewable picture and sound. When local in the house it streams at over 6mb for a fantastic picture and sound.

5 of 5 Gret bundle Friday, February 08, 2008
Deci from Renton, WA
A bit hard to figure out the firewall changes to be made in order to make the unit visible on the "extranet" (outside my own internet connection). Otherwise, everything worked great for me. Been in Europe on vacation for 3 weeks and wa watchd all hi-def sports and movies recorded on our DVR, preventing the hard-drive to get full.

5 of 5 Great product! Wednesday, January 30, 2008
A Customer from Chino, CA
This is a terrific device. We are in Mexico and my husband is able to watch his Lakers and anything else he wants! Set up took a bit of time and we needed a SlingLink to access our wireless router, but overall a great product.

5 of 5 Sling Pro Rocks!!! Thursday, January 24, 2008
arbon76 from Nashua, NH
I always wanted to get the Sling Media device since it came out. But wanted to wait due all of the technology changes. Now they added the HDMI port. That sold me! Plus the great bundle package price of $185.00. I recieved the package opened it up read the small instructions booklets that came with both the Sling Pro and HDMI hook up. After spending 20 minutes making all my connections and uploading the software to my PC. I was up and running locally on my network. I followed the tech support on line for my Buffalo router for port forwarding so I could access the Sling Pro remotley from another network. Everything worked great with no issues. They thought of everything when making this device. Also there is alot of online support for almost any siutation. Anyways Great product, service and ease of operation!!!!!!!!!!!!! I reccomend anyone that does alot of traveling get this technology you won't be disappointed.

5 of 5 The Amazing SLINGBOX Thursday, January 24, 2008
Al from Lawrenceville, GA
I installed the SlingBox and the HD Cable Adapter. It was a simple install. I had a set up issue, but the Technical Support Staff worked me through was turned out to be a home network issue. Once I fixed the network, the Sling Box worked perfectly. I control from any PC, and even used my ATT Network card on one PC to checkout whether I could control from "anyplace" in the world, and it worked. After adjusting the video for the Network cards slower speed, I was able to view and control the video outside my home network. Takes a little knowledge of your network to set up, but the Technical Support Staff had the tools and ability to "remote" connect to the pc and help view settings. GREAT Tech Support, GREAT product. THE High Def IS AMAZING! Go for the Sling Box PRO.... Can hardly wait for the Sling Catcher. Look out Cable Box Revenues.

5 of 5 Items ship separately Tuesday, January 22, 2008
A Customer from Manassas, VA
The bundle actually ships separately, so don't be surprised when you receive the Slingbox pro without the HD cable or vice versa. It is non standard for bundles and the website does not make mention of it. Received both items within 1 business day of each other and it works great! I have it hooked up via wireless G and at least initially, there is no apparent video lag or distortion on the home network. Have not experimented with remote access yet.

5 of 5 Works as advertized! Tuesday, January 22, 2008
A Customer from Austin, TX
The SlinkLink Pro set up was very easy. I had it up and running in about 30 minutes. Everything worked as advertized. I am able to view both HD and regular programming. Performance in my home network is very good. I have not tried the remote access feature yet (i.e. through the internet) or the mobile phone option either. The setup up program also gave me the option to skip the flash update until after I finished setting it up. Very happy with the device and the Buy.com price.

3 of 5 Nice but with no integrated PVR Monday, January 07, 2008
A Customer from ATL
Overall it's nice(quality, etc.) but it would have been better if it has an integrated PVR(personal video recorder) like HAVA titanium. Depending on your needs you might want to compare both product. Disadvantage with the HAVA titanium it's a new product(came out Nov 2007) and hence not a lot of reviews.

4 of 5 Sling Box Friday, December 14, 2007
kalynpress from NJ
Purchased this for my son away in college but still wants to watch NY NJ sports. Real easy to set up etc. Do NOT let Best Buy or others talk you into spending $150 for a "pro" to set it up NOT needed.. It works pretty well tho sometimes he reports it is blurry. Probably a problem with the tower at his school and NOT the slingbox. All in all a great amazing toy and well worth what I paid at this web site thank you Kalyn Press

4 of 5 overall a nice product Wednesday, December 12, 2007
In Color from Santa Barbara, CA
Mac software is mature enough for a good user experience, which was the deciding factor. I bought a standard sling box for my mother a year ago, and the picture was a bit jerky. Since then the software has been upgraded for Mac to make the system work nicely. When Buy decided to throw in the HD breakout box, I finally decided to buy one for my own. I only wish the breakout box had HDMI in and out, as this is the way home theatre is going. It would decrease the size of my rats nest growing behind my mess of techno HT components. In fact, the HDMI-style connector on the back of the Sling is misleading because it only works as an interface for the breakout box, which does not actually support HDMI. Other than that, it does nicely what it claims. In fact, I even installed the player on my laptop and was able to access my satellite receiver from a remote location without any need to configure my router.

5 of 5 All good Monday, December 10, 2007
A Customer from Chicago, IL
I can't think of any improvement to add to the Slingbox Pro. Everything it says it does is delivered. The setup process is amazingly user-friendly and intelligent, that I wish it could be adopted by other hardware vendors. I used it last week from my hotel room in Montreal (wired broadband) and at the airports (Wi-Fi) to watch some TV shows, the quality was very acceptable. Yesterday, I read a review on the competing product from Sony, Slingbox Pro came out as a winner. Being a technical person myself, I have to congratulate the engineers who put together such a solid and well-functioned product while concealing the technical details from end users.

4 of 5 Pro & HD Thursday, November 29, 2007
A Customer from Orlando FL
Works! Picture quality is very dependant on your internet connections upload. On a lan the full screen picture is descent but full screen remotely is just adequate. Windowed viewing is better and connections are quick and reliable. I have used Slings locator service and now directly to my web address but once the UPNP sets up your router, either method works well. The product is not perfect yet... but it is defintely an enjoyable and functional piece of equipment.

3 of 5 check manufacturer sopport before buying Wednesday, November 28, 2007
A Customer from Springfield, IL
The SlingBox Pro works OK but not as I had hoped. What the literature doesn't tell you is that there are no drivers available as of yet for HD TV's that have the cable card built into the TV. However, there seems to be support for most all cable boxes. I was able to make the unit work by running the cable directly into the SlingBox prior to sending it on the the TV. This then limits you to using a generic remote allowing me to access channels 1 - 100 but without being able to access the HD channels and the many features of the Mitsubishi LCD HD-TV. SlingBox support could not tell me when or even if they will every support these newer models with the built-in cable card.

4 of 5 Slingbox performs as promised Wednesday, November 28, 2007

It's pretty miraculous. We've had few to no technical problems setting it up on two desktops and one laptop. Its limitations are limited to your bandwidth.

5 of 5 The future of TV Wednesday, November 28, 2007
Micah from Scottsdale, AZ
I work in the television industry, so keeping up with and monitoring our shows is very important. The SLING Box is great for this! The quality of viewing greatly depends upon the internet connection, but if you're interested in keeping up with the shows on your TiVo or don't want to miss MNF, then this is the way to go. There were some set-up issues. I use a MAC, so I cannot say it was an immediate "out of the box" experience. I called customer service and they immediately walked me through the needed set-up. They were polite and knew exactly what to do. I also purchased that HD connect cable. If I had to do it again, I probably would not because there's really no noticeable difference. I'm sure if you had a pristine T1 connection or something similar, you may be able to tell, but certainly not on a regular broadband connection. Overall, this is a great device that I believe is under promoted. When traveling, it's just as important as my iPhone and laptop!

5 of 5 Works Very Well Wednesday, November 28, 2007
A Customer from Cape Coral, Florida
I purchased this for my daughter who was going off to college, and didn't want to pay $50 for basic cable in her apartment. With a Dish Network 722 reciever that is in my theater room that I don't use as often as my other recievers, I thought this would be a good way for her to have tv available. Setup was easy, and it has worked flawlessly. With a cable internet connection at my house and her apartment, video streamed well, and the picture was excellent. It truly is like having your cable or sat box right in front of you. A great product!

5 of 5 highly recommend Thursday, September 27, 2007
CR from Lake Forest, IL
I highly recommend the Slingbox PRO and Sling HD Connect Cable Bundle. I have a DirecTV HR10-250 HD DVR High Definition Satellite Box with Built-In TiVo. In less than 20 minutes I was able to setup the Slingbox PRO and was watching TV on my wi-fi connected laptop. I used everything that came in the boxes except I used my own network cable to connect the SlingBox to my Linksys Broadband router.

4 of 5 WARNING! HD component in does not work well Wednesday, September 26, 2007
A Customer from NY, NY
for remote viewing! The system will not optimize at 640X480 which is the setting you will need to view component HD remotely. At any other setting the video has aliasing (vertical lines) and is unbearable to watch. Even at 768kbs uplink the video will be choppy without the optimization feature which is turned off using 640X480. Using standard def or composite or s video in work great. So if you are not remotely streaming component HD this box as all other sling products works great.

5 of 5 This product is great! Monday, September 17, 2007
Pat from Conway, AR
I watched and periodically researched this product for a year before buying. I saw almost no complaints in reviews so decided to give it a try. It was very easy setup and I only had one minor problem, but tech support was great and I was up and running immediately! I have used it traveling and in my bedroom upstairs where I don't have a TV. The best use I have for it is when my grandkids are playing their games on my TV and I can watch what I want on my computer. I can use it on either my PC or laptop! It works every time! Unlike a lot of technology "gadgets", this one totally delivers what it promises! I would definitely buy again!!

4 of 5 Great remote viewing but you better have a good up Friday, June 15, 2007
A Customer from Houston, TX
Love the abililty to stream HD content within my house (HD content is over a 6MB stream). It is rare to have a 1MB uplink broadband connection, so the quality drops outsite the home network. It is still very good, just not the same. Very nice having the ability to re-program the cable DVR from anywhere and then watch it in the hotel room. I would buy it again.

5 of 5 Great complement to my Tivo Series-2 setup! Monday, June 11, 2007
A Customer from Boston, MA
Although I don't have an HD source yet, I got this combo because it seemed a great deal and offers more flexibility for connecting AV sources. Setup was easy. The software works well over my 802.11g WiFi home network. I've been able to connect to my home slingbox from different networks, which is great for last-minute TiVo programming. Watching programs from outside of the home network is passable, but not ideal due to my limited upload bandwidth using Comcast cable/broadband. I wish there was native Linux OS support for the Slingplayer client software. I've had some stability issues with Slingplayer on XP/SP2.
