Because of licensing agreements, the collection sticks to the Columbia vaults, bypassing such slide greats as Elmore James. Then again, with the exception of Muddy Waters, the collection almost entirely bypasses electric players in favor of country blues. Nevertheless, it's hard to argue with a collection that features Leadbelly, Blind Boy Fuller, Bukka White, Charley Patton, Blind Willie McTell, Taj Mahal, and Robert Johnson; they alone make Slide Guitar: Streamline Special a good bargain for its mid-line price. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine |
