Having posed as a prisoner inside a federal penitentiary, a young agent (Michael Ealy) develops contacts that enable him to infiltrate an Islamic terrorist cell in Los Angeles. The cell is led by an intimidating, charismatic extremist (Oded Fehr), who considers all acts of violence moral when serving the greater good of his cause. But early in the investigation something goes wrong, placing lives - and the integrity of a three-year mission - in serious jeopardy." "The blocks of tension the show hurls at us are fantastic." Mark Runyon, PM Media Review
 Editor's Note
Set in post-9/11 America, SLEEPER CELL is a Showtime series that capitalizes on the country's fear and paranoia about terrorist organizations. Michael Ealy stars as Darwyn, an F.B.I. agent who has managed to infiltrate an Islamic terrorist cell in Los Angeles. Introduced to the group by leader Farik (Oded Fehr), Darwyn learns of their plans to attack Los Angeles, and faces some tough challenges as the time for the group to carry out the mission approaches. SLEEPER CELL is a brave piece of programming that resembles Fox's 24 in both its theme and its frantic pace. The entire first season is collected here.

| | Professional Reviews | Ultimate DVD 5 stars out of 5 -- "Uncompromising, challenging and thought-provoking, SLEEPER CELL should be applauded for telling the other side of the story in such an enthralling and intelligent way." 10/01/2006 p.128Total Film 4 stars out of 5 -- "SLEEPER CELL's first season sees Darwyn infiltrate an extremist group readying a devastating attack." 12/01/2006 p.136 Variety.com 7 of 10 As with reports about the 9/11 hijackers, "Sleeper Cell" finds irony in how these jihadists "go native" while stationed here, from frequenting strip clubs to holding all-American outdoor barbecues. It's at the latter where Darwyn meets Gayle (Melissa Sagemiller), a single mom with whom he foolishly becomes romantically entangled. That rather cliched relationship, along with occasional heavy-handed snippets of dialogue, detract from the cat-and-mouse thriller that series creators Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris ("Bulletproof Monk") have constructed, which proves initially engaging but sags in the middle episodes. - Brian Lowry
