5 of 5 SIMPLY GREAT Thursday, November 12, 2009
v from douglasville, ga

I have had my player close to 2 months now....I LOVE IT! i really didn't know what to expect since Slacker is new to me but it has proven to be a device i can't do without. Great at work, Great in the car, just great. you can put it on a channel (genre) you like and not hear the same songs over and over. and the fact you can store your mp3's, even better.

5 of 5 Slacker Radio Monday, September 28, 2009
A Customer from Granville, OH
I like this player. Its intuitive and easy to use. It allows access a variety of music without owning the music. The concept of downloading music automatically to listen to later is amazingly useful. My workplace doesn't permit streaming media on the company network. The Slacker Radio is loaded with plenty of music for hours of listening. I really like the Album art and the artist biographies. The only part I can't get the hang of is the Touch Strip. No matter, I disabled it. The scroll wheel works great.

5 of 5 Don't hesitate. Friday, July 03, 2009
irunamok from Houston
So pleased with this that I'll never use my mp3 player again...and I love my mp3 player. Free, highly customizable stations, and access to your account over any web browser. How do you beat that? Some small quibbles with the hardware, yes, but still totally worth the price at 50 bucks. The touch strip takes getting used to because it's very sensitive and you accidentally change stations if you aren't careful, but it works fine for what it does. Don't expect an iPhone touch interface you'll be okay with it. The player is plastic and I would have been very disappointed with it at $250 but for $50 it's a no-brainer. Just don't drop it. The love/hate buttons are right at the place where you'll grab the player to take it out of the cover, so watch out for that. The holder is a joke, so you'll want to get an aftermarket replacement for that, and of course bundled headphones always stink, so you'll want to use your own. I know the G2 model is much smaller and nicer, better buttons etc, but it does the same thing for $150 more so you make the call. This is the best electronics purchase I've ever made. Could it be more elegant? Sure, it's kind of big and clunky--about the size of the original iPod or a Palm Pilot--but to have Slacker in your pocket for $50? Don't even hesitate for a second. Oh, and they aren't kidding that the first sync takes HOURS...be sure that you use the power supply or the battery will dump on you before it's done. But after that, the sync is much faster. It's the new stations that take a long time. For all the minor drawbacks, it's totally worth it.

2 of 5 Works great... when it works Monday, March 16, 2009
Slicer from Asheville, NC
I'm quite surprised at all the good reviews on the Slacker G1 because I've had quite a bit of trouble with it and their tech support hasn't done much. The player will stop playing songs by itself, reset itself for no reason, and fail to refresh. It does occasionally work for extended periods without issue, and when that happens it is wonderful. Problem is that there are issues with the player probably 90% of the time which, as you could imagine, is quite frustrating. As much as I'd love to be able to say, "Get this thing now... it's worth every penny!", the reality is that it's got too many issues to be worth it.

5 of 5 WOW! I am a slacker! Friday, January 16, 2009
Hyde from Old Greenwich, CT
I guess I am a Slacker. This device gives you up-to-the moment content. My kids say, "Dad, I can't choose what I want to hear", I just say, "Hey, just give a listen,...It's all good." ..That said, FREE CONTENT, EVERY DAY! Who needs ITunes. This service is excellent. I do not understand their business model, but who cares! Free MP3 audio, every day. Excellent sound quality. The album art/info alone is worth the (non) price. You can't go wrong with this if you are a real radio person, this is a gem.

5 of 5 Great device recommend to any gadgets guy or gal Thursday, January 15, 2009
Wes from Green Bay WI
So, i purchased the slacker after much debate on was it worth the money, after receiving the product, i immediately was impressed with the song selection and the recommendations it made based on my likes and dislikes. The display size is nice for reading up on the artists and the commercials on the free service are not frequent at all approx 1 every hr. Great player for in the car or home along with using it as a personal music player. The intial download does take hrs and they should advise you to mark what stations you want to keep in the player as its default stations are wiped clean if not marked as save. Now i love the slacker as do the 6 friends i informed who also purchased them.

4 of 5 Good Price Free Music Sunday, January 11, 2009
Hunwald from Indy
With a desk full of iPods and MP3 players this has quickly become my player of choice. I do not however use it for MP3s just for downloaded radio. The iPod is the best for listening to your music collection. This however is king if you dislike commercial radio and want to hear new music.

4 of 5 My husband loves this gift! Wednesday, January 07, 2009
A satisfied customer from from Hatfield PA
This was a great gift. My husband really likes this Slacker Radio. It's nice that you can get different music continuously! The screen isn't too small, it's pretty easy to read and easy to figure out. You can 'blow-up' the size of the album cover to look at to which I think is a cool feature. The ear buds are pretty good quality too.

5 of 5 Amazing Product! Wednesday, January 07, 2009
Noah from Boulder, Colorado
I have never liked the radio because the stations will play a song that you like followed by a song you don't like. With slacker, on the off chance that they play a song you don't like you can skip to the next song. This product completely changed the way I listen to music. The only problem was that I couldn't get it to refresh stations by USB cable but the WIFI works great.

5 of 5 Stop paying for Sattelite Radio, This Is FREE Tuesday, January 06, 2009
Kevin from Palm Coast , Florida
When I purchased this G1 i was worried it would not work as stated, Well I was wrong, the 4 Inch LCD screen gives you all the information on Artist, Songs, etc. Setting up your saved radio stations is easy via online at Slacker.com when you download the software. I sugguest you print out the FULL version of the Owners manual on Slacker.com will make it alot easier to figure out

4 of 5 Awesome gift idea Saturday, January 03, 2009
A Customer from atlanta, ga
player works as described. Incredible amount of info about the artist. Bought this as a gift for my brotherinlaw. Getting to use this during the setup was a great experience. Player is lightweight, great full size screen usage, excellent audio quality. Would highly recommend this for anyone. Cons initial setup takes a long time over wifi and the included case is pretty much useless. Enjoy!

5 of 5 Great idea and great addition to your ipod! Friday, January 02, 2009
steve from kalamazoo, mi
The concept behind the Slacker is great. Having 25 stations of music that get updated is a great idea. Easy to use and the wifi works great. The ads are minimal on the free service. I assume that this is the first unit they came out with. Screen and info section is great. A little slow to resond, at times. Overall, for $79 dollars it is a must have. If you like music, get Slacker!

4 of 5 So far, so good. Monday, December 29, 2008
Jeff from West Bend, Wi
I bought the Slacker G1 and really like the concept and hope it stays around for awhile. I'm so sick of normal, predictable radio, and this is a great alternative. The sound quality is pretty good, not as good as my Zen. The tech support is helpful, but without a telephone number, chatting can be quite cumbersome and long. I had a problem with my firewall messing up the station downloading. The only way I can update my stations is by turning off my firewall, which I really don't like to do. I'm happy with the product, and really liked the price.

5 of 5 excellent idea, good product Saturday, December 27, 2008
A Customer from Seneca, SC
slacker.com is an excellent idea. First go to the website & read what it is. There are two versions of the player, G1 & G2. I am not sure what additional features the G2 offers but, for the price difference, I will tolerate any shortcomings of the G1. First, one must setup an account on slacker.com & select stations to download. After downloading & installing the appropriate software, connecting the player to a USB port will activate the software & download the selected stations to the player. I had to reboot & connect several times before it first worked. After the first time I have had very little trouble updating the stations. I have not tried updating via Wi-Fi. My home network is password protected & the player will only work on an unprotected network.

5 of 5 I love this thing! Gave it to my wife for Christm Thursday, December 25, 2008
Jason from Muscle Shoals, AL
After a couple of hickups connecting to the website, everything has worked very well! We've selected 21 of our favorite catagories and loaded them to the Slacker (we still have 4 more we could load). Now, it wi-fi downloads updates for those stations/catagories and has great sound. Only drawback is the size of this generation 1 model (will fit in a shirt pocket barely). Love the size of the screen! Very easy to read text. Can blow up album and retrieve artist information. Great! I think I'll order one for myself!

4 of 5 like it but... Wednesday, December 24, 2008
dna from NC
This slacker player is the G1 - version 1 - and although I think the player itself is wonderful because of the variety offered in the stations you can upload, do not purchase this and expect to happily sync it via usb. There are lots of technical hoops to jump through to try to get it to work and then it still might not refresh stations. I finally drove by a local internet cafe and tried it. Worked great. Unless you have wi-fi I would suggest dont bother with this. Also know that it takes a really long time to get the music in there the first time. It's bigger than you might think also - about the size of a Palm Pilot. Despite these drawbacks, I totally agree with the reviewer who is tired of the predictability of music on an mp3 player and appreciate the freshness of this product.

5 of 5 coolest thing I own Monday, September 29, 2008
wmarkhay from New Richmond, WI
I'm known by my friends as an "electronic gadget guy," and this has recently supplanted my Sirius Stilleto as my favorite music device. The music discovery feature takes it way beyond iPod type things, where you can only load on what you already have/know about. And the background info on the musicians is just fantastic -- the only thing bad about the digital era compared to years ago is missing the liner notes of vinyl LPs, and this gives that back to us and then some (reviews included). If you're a musical moron who only wants the top hits off a pop chart to have the same crap as everybody else, this is not for you, but if you really love music and finding more new/great stuff, this is the best there is. Some people complained about the touch-pad control and recommend leaving it disabled, but once you get the hang of it, it's a great feature as well.
