 Plot Summary
From humble Hoboken to luxurious Los Angeles, Frank Sinatra's life has been one hell of a ride.| The actor-singer left behind his New Jersey roots to win the hearts of listeners as a romantic crooner. He sang such hits as "My Wonderful One." Later, he boosted his fame by appearing in such screen classics as "From Here to Eternity" and "The Manchurian Candidate."| However, life was not always as kind to Sinatra -- and sometimes he had no one to blame except the man in the mirror. His marriages to first wife Nancy, Ava Gardner and Mia Farrow epitomized the oil-and-water mixture of show business and romance.| Amid these triumphs and trials, Sinatra always stayed loyal to the one thing that never abandoned him: his audience.

| | Professional Reviews | FilmsGraded.com 7 of 10 Sinatra depicts Ol' Blue Eyes as an alcoholic, temperamental philanderer, associating with gangsters and reneging on contracts. The surprise is that this often unflattering portrayal is the product of his own daughter, executive producer Tina Sinatra...Perhaps she made the film in revenge for what he did to her mother, Nancy Sinatra Sr. After an initial happy courtship, she spends the rest of the film suffering. Sinatra lives on the road, while she stays at home raising the children and reading about his carousing in the scandal sheets...During the four-hour, made-for-television movie, Frank works his way through three wives and several girlfriends. The rise and fall of these relationships, which include major actresses Ava Gardner (Marcia Gay Harden) and Mia Farrow (Nina Siemaskzo), receives much more attention than does Frank's acting career. Only Sinatra's Oscar winning performance in From Here to Eternity, which rescued his then flagging career, is given serious treatment...Philip Casnoff, who plays Frank Sinatra, does physically resemble The Voice, especially in profile. David Hubbard does a good knock-off of Sammy Davis Jr, while Bob Gunton is convincing as bandleader Tommy Dorsey. However, the Dean Martin impersonator is hopelessly miscast. - Brian Koller
