The sima SL-20IR light is a great value for those that need to increase the range of their night vision equipment. The claim of 30 feet illumination is a bit optimistic but overall a good product. The batteries last for at least one and a half hours and easily recharge. The linking feature of the lights allow you to connect an unlimited amount of them together and is anice feature. I got my my light expecting there to be three squares of IR lights. There is only one not like the photo used in the ad. Also the ad said it was a PRO whatever that means the package didn't say pro anywhere.? Did I get the wrong item??? Ok so then I go to plug it in and the plug doesn't completely fit in the unit!!??? Seems kind of dangerous to me. Also the battery is not replaceable so when it goes bad you are up the river without a paddle. Also some of the IRS don't work on it so it is defective out of the box. I don't want to pay to ship it back so I guess I'm stuck with it. It does work though and did light up the room better than my night vision camera. Tried it with a regular camera and didn't do anything. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Great Value Sunday, May 18, 2008 A Customer from Los Angeles, CA
Does exactly what it says and works great for the price. If you don't know what infrared is, this is the wrong product for you. Don't buy it (like the last guy) then blame the manufacturer for your ignorance after the fact. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Work on certain function on your camcoder only Wednesday, April 02, 2008 rliu_va from Fairfax, VA
In order to use this unit, your camcorder needs to eqipped with Night Light mode. You don't get any visible light, however, once your camcoder has Night Light mode turn on, the unit will help your camcoder to SEE a brighter objects in a very dark environment. My 10+ year-old Sony camcoder equipped with such mode and it worked great, but the viewing objects still shown in night vision view. My 1 year-old Hitachi DVD camcoder does not have such function so the light unit is totally useless on it. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 WOW! This little light packs a big punch. Wednesday, March 26, 2008 Michael Beaudry from Methuen, Massachusetts
In the complete darkness of my attic (No light at all can’t even see your hand in front of your face) I turned on my Sony DCR-HC52 camera and set it to “Super Night Shot”. The cameras IR gives off a nice 15’-20’ clear line of centered sight. (Meaning that it’s clearly bright in the center of the viewing area but dark off to the sides). I then turned on the Sima SL-20IR and WOW the hole attic lit up like it was day. I clearly had over 75’ of clear view all over.
I set the camera up and left it on to see how the battery life would be. I came back every 30 minutes to check on it. After One hour of constant use the light showed some signs of battery drain. The clear view dropped to about 25’, and had dimmed so the side views were noticeable darker but still brighter then my cameras night shot.
Over all this light has passed my test and is a definite bargain at $42.00. I will review the light after so many hours of use. Was this review helpful?

The features say, "allows camcorder to film in the dark". Well, not being a camera buff, I thought it must be a very bright light. Wrong, "IR" means "infra-red" light, not visible light.
Don't get this item unless you know what you're doing. I think the Sima I should have ordered was the SL-20LX....? Was this review helpful?
