| | | The Greatest Fairy Tale Never Told. Features: DVD The wait is ogre! Now's your chance to get your hands on all three magical tales of adventure and excitement! THE SHREK TRILOGY includes all three SHREK films featuring your favorite computer-animated characters, including Princess Fiona, Donkey, Puss in Boots, and, of course, Shrek!SHREK: You've never met a hero quite like Shrek, the endearing ogre who sparked a motion picture phenomenon and captured the world's imagination with the Greatest Fairy Tale Never Told! The critics are calling SHREK "not just a brilliant animated feature, but a superb film on any level" (Larry King, USA Today). Relive every moment of Shrek's (Mike Myers) daring quest to rescue feisty Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) with the help of his lovable loudmouthed Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and win back the deed to his beloved swamp from scheming Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow). Enchantingly irreverent and "monstrously clever" (Leah Rozen, People Magazine), SHREK is ogre-sized adventure you'll want to see again and again! SHREK 2: Everyone's favorite larger-than-life hero returns in SHREK 2, the #1 comedy of all time hailed by critics and audiences alike as even better than its Oscar winning predecessor! USA Today proclaims "there are so many jokes and jests, not even a jelly-bellied ogre could consume them all in one sitting." Happily ever after never seemed so far, far away when a trip to meet the in-laws turns into another hilariously twisted adventure for Shrek and Fiona. With the help of his faithful steed Donkey, Shrek takes on a potion-brewing Fairy Godmother, the pompous Prince Charming, and the famed ogre-killer, Puss in Boots, a ferocious feline foe who's really just a pussycat at heart! SHREK THE THIRD: When Shrek (Mike Myers) married Fiona (Cameron Diaz) the last thing he had in mind was becoming the next King of Far, Far Away however, when Shrek's father-in-law, King Harold, suddenly croaks, that is exactly what he becomes. Recruiting Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) for a new quest, Shrek sets out to bring back the rightful heir to the throne. Meanwhile back in the kingdom, Fiona's jilted Prince Charming (Rupert Everett) storms the city with an army of fairytale villains to seize the throne. Fiona and a band of princesses must stop him to ensure there will be a kingdom left to rule! "[3] ...the fanciful fable looks particularly vibrant this time with its signature blend of realism and fantasy...a pleasure..." Claudia Puig, USA Today "[1] Smart and hilarious." David Ansen, NewsWeek "[2] ...one of the funniest movies I've seen in years." Ella Taylor, L.A. Weekly "[2] Has a rowdy, jumpin'-jive vivacity." Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly "[1] Two big thumbs up!" Roger Ebert and Richard Roeper, Ebert & Roeper "[3] ...a buoyantly funny...stylish animated comedy..." Todd McCarthy, Variety

| | Professional Reviews | DVD Talk 8 of 10 [3] "Third" shows a maturity this series has never investigated before and I fear some might see it as fatigue. Directors Chris Miller and Raman Hui have elected to try for a story-based tone for the second sequel and the change is interesting to say the least. The "Shrek" adventures will never be defined by their dramatic immediacy but "Third' gets close to a consistent tone and more tempered bits of comedy...Also showing marked improvement is the animation, which has taken on a new reality through tech upgrades. "Third" doesn't mess with the visual blueprint, but advances the character expressions and movement. The best example is Shrek himself, who looks at times to be a photo-real creature. This is still a cartoon, but it's inching closer to a CG polish that's baffling to process...Now free of the burden of having to be the hippest ogre in the swamp, this franchise has finally found some footing to manufacture something beyond a cruel lump of groans. - Brian Orndorf Chicago Sun-Times 10 of 10 [1] There is a moment in "Shrek" when the despicable Lord Farquaad has the Gingerbread Man tortured by dipping him into milk. This prepares us for another moment when Princess Fiona's singing voice is so piercing it causes jolly little bluebirds to explode; making the best of a bad situation, she fries their eggs. This is not your average family cartoon. "Shrek" is jolly and wicked, filled with sly in-jokes and yet somehow possessing a heart...Much will be written about the movie's technical expertise, and indeed every summer seems to bring another breakthrough on the animation front...Still, all the craft in the world would not have made "Shrek" work if the story hadn't been fun and the ogre so lovable. Shrek is not handsome but he isn't as ugly as he thinks; he's a guy we want as our friend, and he doesn't frighten us but stir our sympathy. He's so immensely likable that I suspect he may emerge as an enduring character, populating sequels and spinoffs. One movie cannot contain him. - Roger Ebert Reel.com 10 of 10 [2] Rare is the movie that works on as many levels as Shrek did. Rarer still is the sequel that outshines the original. On a four-star rating system, Shrek 2 gets a five. It's even more clever than the first Shrek, with even more advanced animation, and a larger cast that is equal to the original...The depiction of Far, Far Away is worth several viewings in and of itself. Watch the people on the sidewalks and the squeegee pages. Check out the store names. The detail is phenomenal...As with the original, Shrek 2 is a movie that requires multiple viewings to catch all the jokes and pop-culture references...In some ways, the humor seems so oriented to grownups that one wonders if children will enjoy the movie. But if the preview screening, which found viewers enduring more security checkpoints than in an airport, is any indication, the kiddies will love it, too. And you know how kids want to watch movies over and over - this is one adults can enjoy multiple times as well. - Sarah Chauncey
