An eleven-million-dollar fugitive robot shuffles into a police station...shackled in handcuffs! Could it be? Is this what happens when a thoroughly reputable robot visits the city for the first time? Number Five from Short Circuit is back, this time as Johnny Five in the fantasy comedy Short Circuit 2. Johnny's inventor Ben (Fisher Stevens) has left Nova Robotics and moved to the city to start the Titanic Toy Corporation ("like the ship"). This means that Ben is living in a truck and working on the streets, making a meager living peddling toy Number Five robots. When Ben's handiwork is noticed by Sandy Banatoni (Cynthia Gibb), an assistant toy buyer for a major department store, she offers him $50,000 if he can come up with 1,000 Number Fives. It isn't easy to build that many robots in a battered old truck, particularly when you're living in it, but Johnny Five, Sandy and Ben's former inventor-partner Newton all pitch in to get the job accomplished. Johnny becomes a one-man assembly line, but he fails to reckon with the wiles of the big city, where he's mistaken for a bad modern sculpture, harassed by street gangs, perplexed by a priest and runs afoul of a scheming banker with ulterior motives. And it also doesn't help that Ben has fallen in love with Sandy!

"Two thumbs up! Even better than the original."  Siskel & Ebert

Editor's Note

Wacky robot Johnny Five breaks free of his bonds once more, striking out for the urban wilds of New York City in search of excitement and fun. But hardened city slickers make an easy mark of the guileless 'bot and try to exploit Johnny Five for some quick, ill-gotten cash.

Plot Summary

A sweet-natured robot called Johnny Five escapes from its lab and wanders around the big city with only curiosity to guide him. His silly inventor, an Indian man who ludicrously butchers the English language, teams up with some local retailers to re-capture his wayward creation. Meanwhile, the plucky robot is in danger of falling into the greedy hands of a businessman who wants to turn the automaton into a motorized jewel thief.

...[Director Kenneth] Johnson pulls heartstrings with the best of them--or the worst, if you hate that sort of thing... if you're a kid, or an adult with an Erector Set, you might just enjoy this summer-weight caper. - Rita Kempley

5 of 5 Fantastic buy! Monday, March 16, 2009
Becky from Emporia Kansas

I had never gotten anything from Buy.com before and am very pleased over my recent purchase of Short Circuit 2 new DVD. I got it for a birthday gift and the recipient loves it! She alread has Short Circuit and wanted the second one but it was very expensive elsewhere and even hard to find at some places. At Buy.com, it was very reaonably priced with free shipping provided. I received it in a very timely fashion and it was very well wrapped and protected. I even paid for the new DVD using Paypal, which is a very convenient way to pay for online purchases. I definitely recommend Buy.com for puchases and have recommended it to others, as well. Thank you!
