Just look at Shaun White, with his wiry frame and long red hair. Couldn't he be a Mii character? With those looks, the aerial acrobatics he performs and his life-is-just-a-crazy-journey persona, White seems larger than life, possibly even cartoonish. Maybe that's why the Wii version of the new Shaun White Snowboarding franchise, Shaun White Snowboarding: Road Trip, is such a grand success. Not only have the folks at Ubisoft shown that the Balance Board will have a place in the world of snowboarding for the foreseeable future, but also that the game is still more than worthwhile without it...While the Wii isn't the most powerful console, Road Trip's visuals on are among the strongest on the system. The colors are bright and vibrant, while the overall speed of your runs is exciting. After crashing, snow covers your whole body and gradually falls off, a great-looking touch. The look and layout of the menus and screen are hard to find fault with either. Scoring and time are easy to monitor even when bombing down a mountain, and when tricks are thrown a cartoonish picture of that trick will pop up on the top of the screen, like a trucker hat when you pull off a "Truck Driver"...Whenever there's a new product on the market, there's always the worry that it was rushed. The Balance Board experience of Shaun White Snowboarding: Road Trip is not only free of any detectable bugs or major flaws, but the look, feel and action of the game would have been just fine with only the Wiimote. We're not saying you shouldn't give this game a try with the Balance Board if the opportunity exists, because anything that causes you to almost fall when you aren't moving is definitely doing its job. However, for those of you who haven't gotten into the Balance Board yet but still want a taste of the carefree life of the world's preeminent pro snowboarder, Shaun White Snowboarding: Road Trip won't disappoint. - Steve Berman
