| | Album Notes and Credits | Notes & Personnel Info | | Composer: Hans Zimmer. | | The soundtrack to the computer-animated comedy film Shark Tale had contributions from several stars of the period, with most of the material drawn from the mainstream pop, urban contemporary and rap scene. While the duet by Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliott on an update of the disco hit "Car Wash" was the track that was pushed, the disc also included new songs from Justin Timberlake and Timbaland, Avant, D12, JoJo, and Ludacris. Other big names included Mary J. Blige, whose "Got to Be Real" also featured a contribution from Will Smith (who voiced the leading character in the film), and Ziggy Marley, who dueted with Sean Paul on "Three Little Birds." It's cheerful (sometimes to the point of silly), unmemorably ordinary commercial music from the middle of the 21st century's first decade, with more ballad-like numbers like India Arie's "Get It Together" breaking up the generally beat-heavy atmosphere. ~ Richie Unterberger | | The Dreamworks animated film SHARK TALE tells the rags-to-riches story of a low-level aquatic hustler who takes advantage of the sudden demise of an underwater mob boss to start his own rise to glory. An all-star cast, including Will Smith and Robert De Niro, lent their distinctive voices for the assorted characters. Similarly, SHARK TALE's soundtrack is populated by luminaries of the music world, who offer both original songs and interesting covers. | | The album opens on a lively note with Sean Paul and Ziggy Marley offering some pop-tinged reggae on the festive "Three Little Birds," by Marley's famous father. This is followed by a rambunctious reinterpretation of "Car Wash" that combines the talents of Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliott. The musical lines stretch from the youthful R&B of JoJo on "Secret Love" to hip-hop scandalmongers D12 on "Lies & Rumors." A cool coincidence occurs as Cheryl Lynn appears on the fetching "Sweet Kind of Life," while Mary J. Blige and Will Smith get together on a faithful cover of Lynn's classic "Got to Be Real." The soundtrack for SHARK TALE captures the wide-eyed, fun spirit of the movie. |

the first thought that came to my head when i heard this cd was, "Pretty good! Its like a hiphop cd instead of a sdtk!" ... i dunno! i liked it ... liked some of the tracks ... mainly the hiphop tracks! my favorite track would have to be GOOD FOOT by justin timberlake ft. timbaland! man, justin can sing!!! other than that, the D12 song, LIES AND RUMORS, and the CAR WASH song by christina aguilera ft. missy elliot are good too! overall, i think that this sdtk has it all ... the beats, the artists, and the performance! GOOD JOB! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Some of my Friends are sharks Monday, October 11, 2004 Scubasteve from Los Angeles, CA
One of the best songs on the album has to be Hans Zimmers "Some of my best friends are sharks". It just speaks to the fellow musician, but if you want to crank it up a notch then Car Wash and Three Little Birds are two of the greatest songs to turn to. Chritina Aguilera's voice sounds amazing as usual. There are so many great songs and artists on this soundtrack that it would take too long to fully describe their greatness. Was this review helpful?
