Album Notes and Credits

Notes & Personnel Info
The soundtrack to Shall We Dance? is a predictable, but still pleasant, mix of different types of dance music and pop. The Pussycat Dolls take to the dancefloor with the Latin-tinged "Sway" and Gizelle D'Cole and Pilar Montenegro's "I Wanna (Shall We Dance)" follows suit, while Jamie Cullum applies his cheeky, jazzy style to "I Could Have Danced All Night." Ballroom standards like "Happy Feet," "Espana Cani," "Perfidia," "Moon River," and "The 'L' Train" are competently played and also invite listeners to at least tap their toes, if not venture out onto the dancefloor themselves. Although ballads like Peter Gabriel's "The Book of Love" and Rachel Fuller's "Wonderland" seem a little out of step with the rest of this lively soundtrack, overall this is a decent musical souvenir for Shall We Dance? fans. ~ Heather Phares
For the soundtrack to the 2004 Hollywood movie SHALL WE DANCE? (a remake of a beloved Japanese film of the same name), music producer Randy Spendlove assembled an eclectic set of songs, all focusing on the romantic and/or dance elements of the picture. The buoyant, Latin-tinged "Sway," performed by Pussycat Dolls, leads the track list, followed by GoTan Project's electronica-tango fusion "Santa Maria." British jazz-pop wunderkind Jamie Cullum offers up "I Could Have Danced All Night," and Mya adds a bit of hip-hop-heavy R&B with a bass-heavy take on David Bowie's "Let's Dance." However, the collection's most surprising and unusual track proves to be Peter Gabriel's rendition of the Magnetic Fields' "The Book of Love." This spare song highlights Gabriel's plaintive vocals, which rest on a lush bed of strings, and sums up the romantic sweep of SHALL WE DANCE?

5 of 5 the "Shall We Dance" Soundtrack Is As Go Wednesday, December 12, 2007
A Listener from Lake Elsinore, CA

Listening to this soundtrack brings back how much I enjoyed the movie and I find myself singing along. I play it a lot when I'm doing housework or working out in the yard or patio. It helps me just breeze through it all.
