Get Carried Away.

For too long, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) had been looking for love in all the wrong places...but in all the right shoes. In this much-anticipated movie event, Carrie, Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) are back, four years after the hit TV series ended.

As they continue to juggle career, relationships, motherhood and life in Manhattan, the girls realize that more than ever, true friendship never goes out of style. "Poignant, incisive and proudly outrageous, Sex and the City is the love letter fans have been waiting for" (Rossiter Drake, San Francisco Examiner).

"...at times romantic and is consistently very funny. It's also emotionally realistic, even brutal."  Carina Chocano, Los Angeles Times
"The four women couldn't be better - or better matched. As always, Parker is the standout, cracking your heart and cracking you up with equal ease."  Carrie Rickey, Philadelphia Inquirer
"Amid the style, sass and sexiness is plenty of sentimentality, especially at the satisfying conclusion."  Claudia Puig, USA Today
"It gives you everything you ever loved about the series, and blows it out into super-size cinematic proportions."  Emily Rems, Premiere
"Michael Patrick King's screenplay hits all the right notes, building on the warmth and familiarity of the series (which King also wrote)."  Jessica Reaves, Chicago Tribune
"In its cinematic incarnation, Sex and the City has lost none of its bawdiness yet gained a more profound sense of soberness."  Kimberley Jones, Austin Chronicle
"A movie that taps directly back into the show's primal appeal, which is the sweet, sad, saucy delight of sharing these women's company."  Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly

Editor's Note

The silver-screen version of SEX AND THE CITY is sure to inspire lust, though it may not be after its sexy male cast. Instead, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and her friends wear enviable fashions from the industry's biggest names such as Zac Posen, Louis Vuitton, and, of course, Manolo Blahnik, and their gorgeous clothes--and accessories--threaten to steal the show. But for fans of the series' wit, drama, and sex, there's plenty to like in this romantic comedy filled with familiar characters. Though four years have passed since the events of the series, not much has changed as the film begins: Carrie and Mr. Big (Chris Noth) are happy as they search for an apartment, Charlotte (Kristin Davis) is blissful with her husband (Evan Handler) and adopted daughter, Samantha (Kim Cattrall) is still with actor Smith Jerrod (Jason Lewis), and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) is trying to balance life as a mother, wife, and lawyer as she lives in Brooklyn with Steve (David Eigenberg). But Carrie and Big's apartment hunt leads them down the road to marriage, and the destination may not be quite everything Carrie hoped for.

Though the film runs nearly two and a half hours, it flies by the way a marathon of episodes would for the devoted. Even minor characters from the show--Vogue editor Enid Frick (Candice Bergen), beloved Carrie pal Stanford Blatch (Willie Garson), and hyper wedding planner Anthony Marentino (Mario Canton)--make fan-pleasing appearances. SEX AND THE CITY is full of glitz, glamour, and giggles, but be sure to have a tissue nearby. These characters have become like friends to fans, and it's tough not to tear up when things don't go exactly as they'd hoped.

Professional Reviews
USA Today
3 stars out of 4 -- "It's an unabashed guilty pleasure that goes down as smoothly as a chilled cosmo." 05/30/2008

Los Angeles Times
"For a film that delights in indulging in frivolity at every possible turn, it examines subjects that most movies don't dare graze for their terrifying seriousness. And when it does, the movie handles them with surprising grace, wit and maturity." 05/30/2008

Rolling Stone
"SEX AND THE CITY has always been about the bond among women. At its best, the movie shows why that bond sticks." 06/12/2008 p.90

Empire
"THE MOVIE replicates everything that's great about the TV show, in particular its breathless flitting between relationship realities and romantic wish-fulfillment." 07/01/2008 p.66

Premiere
"It gives you everything you ever loved about the series, and blows it out into super-size cinematic proportions. The drama is more dramatic, the stakes are higher, and the relationships more intense." 06/03/2008

Reel.com 8 of 10
The Sex and the City movie is almost review-proof. Basically, you're either going to like the movie or not, and that more or less depends on your opinion of the TV show. People who've never seen the show probably won't get the hype; those who hate the show will undoubtedly hate the movie. But the fans of Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), Charlotte (Kristin Davis), and Samantha (Kim Cattrall) will adore the movie which is fun, fabulous, and, at times, touching, if a little bit on the long side...The movie begins four years after the ridiculously popular HBO series wrapped up. Carrie and her on-again/off-again beau Mr. Big (Chris Noth) are shopping for an apartment. After years of break-ups and reconciliations, the two have finally decided to move in together, much to Carrie's delight. (And Charlotte's, too--she lets out an eardrum-shattering squeal when she hears Carrie's news.) But all is not well in the Big Apple. The wedding plans start overshadowing Big and Carrie's love for one another, and the other women have relationship issues as well...With a running time of 142 minutes, Sex and the City: The Movie will try the patience of those who can't stand the show and/or its characters. But for fans, director Michael Patrick King's film is like spending an evening with gal pals you haven't seen in ages. - Brie Beazley

Rolling Stone 7 of 10
Some dudes say they'd rather light their dicks on fire than endure this movie version of the ultimate in TV chickcoms. Snap out of it, guys, you just might learn something. If the film didn't go on for a punishing two and a half hours, including two fashion shows and countless designer name-checks, I might call it must-viewing for men who are clueless about the female psyche. Come on, what men aren't?...New York City is back, and so are the ladies: Parker is funny, touching and vital as Carrie Bradshaw, the sex-columnist-turned-author who is planning a wedding to the elusive Mr. Big (Chris Noth). Her meltdown scene is risky, raw and riveting...Writer-director Michael Patrick King, the creative force behind the show's later seasons, can't disguise the fact that the movie is basically five TV episodes strung together (only three hit the mark). But his script is more honest about aging than anything in Indy 4. As Carrie's new assistant, Dreamgirls Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson adds a twentysomething perspective for female characters who are now in their 40s. And the contrast hits home. Beyond the shoes, the cosmopolitans and the disloyal men, Sex and the City has always been about the bond among women. At its best, the movie shows why that bond sticks. - Peter Travers
