5 of 5 Works for my 89 yr old father Friday, September 11, 2009
    A Customer from Newark, DE

I bought these for my dad whose hearing is failing but is otherwise in great shape. His hearing aid doesn't seem to be helping much as he has trouble discriminating ambient sound. My mom said he would sometimes prefer to just mute the TV. She said he could hear me much better on the telephone than in person so I got the idea to give these headphones a try. They work. He's able to enjoy watching, and listening to, movies, the news and sporting events again. They are easy to operate, too... easier than a transistor radio :)

4 of 5 Good for TV, Bad for Music Saturday, March 07, 2009
    A Customer from Hudson, MA
I purchased these headphones primarily to block out the constant background noise my wife and kids generate that made it hard to understand what was being said on TV without cranking the volume up to unpleasant levels. These headphones work great for this purpose. The over-ear design does a great job of blocking out noise in the room and so far has been reasonably comfortable and not too hot to wear for an hour or so. The intelligibility of TV is greatly improved by wearing these headphones, so they definitely do what I wanted them too. Now for the bad points. The first problem I have with them is they don't have a digital input like some higher end models. I didn't think this would be a big deal, but it has ended up causing some difficulty. I don't want to hook the base station up to my receiver's headphone output because it shuts down the other speakers automatically. I would rather hook the base up to the room 2 outputs from my receiver. This gives me the ability to listen to a CD or something else while the television is playing something else. Unfortunately to use the analog outputs for room 2, I needed to run analog inputs from every source device to the receiver. This worked, but it greatly increased the cable clutter behind my receiver. A digital input and decoder on the headphone base would have saved a lot of mess and trouble. The second low point has to do with audio quality. These headphones are fine for TV and maybe some movies, but they have a fair amount of hiss that makes them unsuitable for music listening. If you have audiophile tendencies, you won't be happy with these headphones for any critical listening. The hiss wouldn't be a problem if it were constant- my ear and brain adjust to the sound and tune it out. Unfortunately, the level of the static varies which makes it impossible to tune out. It seems to be worse if you move or turn your head and then settles down again. If you keep perfectly still it generally isn't too bad. I don't have experience with other headphones to say if these are any better or worse. This review sounds harsh, but as I said for TV and movies, I'm perfectly satisfied with the sound. I'm split on the controls on the headphone. I like having the volume control handy and haven't had any trouble confusing it with the tuning control, but I have had problems with the couch changing the volume on me if I lay my head back. Overall, I am satisfied with these headphones. I was expecting some static based on other reviews, so that didn't really come as a surprise to me. The connection problems I had will be common to most headphones with the exception of the higher end models designed for home theater use. This is unfortunate- I think digital inputs should trickle down to mid and low end headphones as well.

    5 of 5 EXCELLENCE!!! Wednesday, January 14, 2009
    zipskid7 from Augusta, Georgia
After much research for noise-cancelling wireless headphones, I purchased the RS140 (not advertised as noise-cancelling but rated for the quality) for my Dad for Christmas so Mom would be able to enjoy watching TV without the deafening volumes my Dad likes. Now they're both VERY happy! Dad watches TV at his volume & Mom gets to turn the TV volume down or off without worrying about tripping over wires. He says they're very comfortable & easy to use. All in all, great quality, great purchase.

    5 of 5 Works Great!!! Wednesday, November 19, 2008
    jwild from Sellersburg, Indiana
I've had the Sennheiser RS 140 model for almost 3 months now and it works great. I love it. I can turn the TV all the way down and I still have crystal clear sound through these cans. These are amazing for sporting events, especially football games. I feel like I can hear the signal calls, players talking, etc.. much better than before when I was listing to my TV. I own the Pioneer 5010fd and these headphones make for one great experience. You will here some fuzz when no sound is coming from your TV, basically the split second between broadcast and commercials, or when you're fast forwarding through commercials. But once the game is back on the fuzz goes away entirely. I'm an extremely picky person and I love this purchase.

    5 of 5 RS-140 & RS-130 both good choices Tuesday, September 30, 2008
    A Customer from Surprise, AZ
I tried both the 130's and the 140's and they are both very good performing headphones. The choice boils down to what works and sounds best for the individual situation. Having said that.... my situation is that I'm on my way out of middle age and starting to have some hearing loss which was impacting my ability to understand all the dialog in TV shows and DVD movies. Turning up volume and playing sound through my receiver / surround sound didn't solve the problem. I researched headphones and hearing assist alternatives and quickly concluded I wanted stereo, wireless, comfortable, and good sound quality headphones. I read reviews and asked store personnel various questions and saw the 130's in a local electronics store. I bought them there because I could return them easily if necessary. I tried them, and immediately began enjoying TV and movies again. The phones were comfortable, the wireless connection had no significant interference (occasional hiss when no sound being transmitted), the RF allowed me to walk around the house and not miss the audio, the sound was clear / crisp and the stereo / surround was vibrant. The only issue to me was that I actually turned off the surround to better pick up some of the dialog (as example, the engine noise in Star Trec seemed louder than the dialog to my ears) which kinda defeated one of the features of the 130's. Sooooo, I decided to try the 140's to get the dynamic speech intelligibility feature and adjust specific ear volume, rather than the surround sound feature. ( Note: I couldn't find the 140's in any local store and at the time, the buy com price was signicantly less than the store price for the 130's) When I first tried the 140's I wasn't sure I made the right choice ...... the sound didn't seem as full and the bass didn't seem as loud. This I understand is due to the lack of surround sound booster and also because the 140's are a completely closed back headphone whereas the 130's are open. However, I could hear the dialog even better with the 140's and once I turned on the dynamic speech feature, the overall sound became more vibrant to me. While don't have as much bass as the 130's, its plenty for me and I appreciate the higher notes and dialog more. To try to sum this up..... I think both the 130'2 and 140's are very good wireless headphones --- which one you choose depends on which sounds best to you and which features are important. I'm not sure the dynamic speech circuitry should cost $40 more than the surround sound feature but if you have a hearing issue or if 140's sounds better then the price is worth it. If your starting to have some hearing loss, (its usually the higher tones that go first and it seems to only get worse) --- the 140's are going to be best in the long run.

5 of 5 Good sound; Awkward controls Tuesday, November 27, 2007
    roy from Boca Raton, FL
The headphones are comfortable to wear and provide good sound. The controls on the headphone unit are somewhat difficult to use. There are volume, tuning, and balance rollers on the left. While the tuning roller (in the middle) has a different texture, it is not easily distinguished. I find I either have to carefully check for position or I am likely to use the wrong control. Using the controls infrequently, I also don't always remember the order.
